My first GEC, a gifted Beer Scout Knife

Generosity abounds on the tradition subforum! Class act move and congrats on receiving your gateway drug into GEC addiction.

The generosity of the porch strikes again. What a fantastic knife. Ed it's folks like you that make me proud to say I'm a member here. You sir are a class act!!

Gateway drug indeed. GEC quality lives up to the hype.

The beer scout blade is helping me in the yard this morning, and the caplifter will help me this afternoon!

awesome act ED and you lucky dog rishma. that is a class action all the way around.

Hats off to Ed here.

I know what you mean about looking for something and not being able to find it. I have become in love with two styles of traditional lately; the Sodbuster pattern, and the boys knife pattern. I can find Sodbusters easy enough, but a single bolster or double bolster, single bladed spear point GEC#15 with ebony, that I can afford is a hard find. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place.

Got some work done and enjoyed the beer scout today. Cutopen sacks, cut weed eater string, and cut up a cracked kiddie pool for the trash bin. The knife slices so well. Love the easy-open knotch since I never had to take off my gloves. The Opinel didn't see the light of day. Used the cap lifter to pop the head of the weed eater and best of all.............

...This forum has quickly become my favorite to visit, read and ogle pictures. The atmosphere here is unparalleled, devoid of most of the non-sense that comes in waves elsewhere. Thanks to all of you regulars and mods who set the tone.

A member here, Modoc Ed, contacting me last weekend requesting my mailing address. This was out of the blue as Ed and I had never had a previous discussion. On Wednesday this week, a beautiful Beer Scout arrived in its tube at my home. Ed gifted me his knife, with few words other than he wanted nothing in return. To put it mildly, I am humbled by this act. In spite of my longtime love of pocket knives, nobody has ever given me a folder. I am not deserving of Ed's generosity, but honestly moved by it.

Here is my new daily carry. Absolutely fantastic. You’ll see more (and better) pictures from me when I actually get outside in the daylight.

Thank you again Ed.
Congrats on your first GEC, rishma!!:thumbup:
Thanks for starting this thread to express your gratitude and show off your new acquisition. :D:D It always gives me a lift to see the generosity of BF members, and it's still amazing to me that something like this seems to happen almost every day!

What was I gonna do? He said he didn't have a GEC knife and on top of that he was looking for a specific one and couldn't find it, so......................... I sent him one.
When I was young, we would have said, "ED, you're a real trip, man!!" Incredibly nice of you to do this!:cool:

Nice gesture, Ed. Sure beats throwing it on the roof..... ;)
Have to admit I was thinking the same thing! :D:D

Well-said, Randy!

Ed wants nothing in return?
Too bad Ed!
You have a lot of positive thoughts coming your way from this thread.

I had a similar act of kindness on another forum I frequent.
I had an opportunity to get a stereo I've wanted since before my age was double digits; all I had to do was find a stereo (any stereo) to replace it with.
I asked the forum members to keep an eye out for something inexpensive at garage sales/SA/Goodwill, etc.
A few days later, I got an email that one was on the way so that I could get my "grail", and the guy didn't even want shipping costs (I reimbursed him anyway).

It was an awesome gesture and made me want to pay it forward as soon as I could (which feels really good to do, especially when I know the recipient is as pleased as I was).

Good stuff.
