Hello All.

I've been reading many, many posts on this forum and thought I would take the plunge and see what these knives are all about. This knife arrived today and all I can say is, "WOW". I own a about 25 modern folders and carry one every day but I can see this and it's friends fitting in my pocket real easy. There goes my disposable income.

You picked a nice one for your first. Though really there aren't any bad ones. It just depends on your tastes and needs in a knife.

Congrats! Beautiful knife and I'm a fan of the sheepsfoot blade on that pattern (have antique yellow sawcut version, myself).

I was in the same position as you. I owned a couple of traditionals but that was because I collect Bucks. The vast majority of my overall collection was modern. Then I bought a GEC Northfield Montana Workhorse Whittler in natural stag. As you suggested, there went my remaining disposable income and I'm concentrating almost exclusively on traditional knives. :D

Enjoy!

Entering the game in style!!! Congrats on a great first knife!

Fantastic first pic.

I own a double handful of traditionals, including a custom. Icovet all the Tom's Choice Barlows.

Just never seems to work out (though I spend money on other toys) The timing is just not right.

Enjoy that beauty in good health, and welcome to the fold.

Welcome aboard---It's just like that Lay's potato commercial---you can't eat just one. Enjoy.

Thanks for the kind comments!

The knife is spectacular. As a bunch of you have mentioned I'm already thinking about buying another. I have to get my head around all the different styles, #'s, handle materials, etc.
When viewing different sites my biggest issue is trying to make up my mind which one I want. Every time I see one I like, the next one I look at is just as nice, etc., etc., etc.
I think I'll get something in stag or bone.

If you are thinking of stag or bone, get the bone that has the character of stag: primitive bone.

I recommend the primitive bone Calf Roper stockman. Here is mine.

Nice! And congrats on your first GEC. I've fallen in love with GEC's folders and have a few of them now. Outstanding quality and value. The TC Barlow is a true classic if there ever was one.

Can't disagree with any of this! The TC Barlows are fantastic knives.

Nice Barlow!

I have several GEC knives and they are all top notch. These are what our grandchildren will find in our dressers and say "this is grandpa's old knife" - and I will be happy to have GEC's be what they find. ;^)

best

It is hard for me to stray away from modern knives, but something about a good old traditional makes you feel good. Even modern traditionals make me feel like an outdoorsman. Remind me of my grandfather too.
