My first heat treat, pic

Just looking for some critiquing. Does it look like I overheated it? is that what that grain I can see means? Is 1080. I used a propane torch and quenched in warm canola. Almost all of the scale blasted off.

This pic is after tempering and a 1 hour vinegar bath then a rub down with 1200 grit. Dont mind that funky stuff at the top, think its jpeg artifacts.

From my understanding, the only way you would be able to tell if the grain was large or small would be to break the blade in half and look at the grain where it was hardened. if it is almost smooth, you did well. if it is really course, you probably messed it up. Only results from use will tell if you are not willing to break it.

I assume you meant 120 grit ?
