My first HI khukuri has arrived

Hmm, I really do like those photos of the YCS. I may have to save my pennies. I have also noticed on the two khukuris I own that the kardas could be great little knives if the handles were a little longer. Is the short handle a feature of all kardas or are there some khukuris that automatically come with longer handled kardas?

I would also be interested in knowing if any members of the Cantina have used the 18 inch World War II regularly when hiking (bushwalking). The more I play with my new khukuri the more I love it. I know this may sound crazy, but I have been walking around the house with my khukuri on a webbing belt ever since I received it. Strangely, the weight hasn't become a nuisance. I know it's a bit different when you add a backpack and hike all day and in retrospect I probably should have ordered a smaller khukuri for bushwalking, but this World War II is a great khukuri. I'd love to take it with me everywhere - crazy I know - but with the two smaller knives - it is a very versatile setup.

Glen, the 18" WWII is my all round khukuri. I carry it when I am out walking in the bush, out with the bow, and for yard work. The only time I take something different is when I am out to chop (22" Ang Khola or GRS) something down or for splitting (22" Ang Khola or Mega Salyan). When I have to lug along a rifle during hunting season I take the along a Ti Mission MPK.

Uncle Bill,

In the HI archives I found a thread where you emailed Will Kwan (and eventually quite a few others) a copy of a test by game wardens on the World War II model khukuri. If you still have it, could I please ask you to email me a copy of the test. And by the way, I am still wearing my khukuri on a belt and it seems to be getting lighter every day - magical those khukuris!
