Thought I'd share my first Hinderer. After discovering Hinderer (when getting back into knives in 2008) I've always wanted one. Finally had the funds, and stomach, to drop the coin on one.

Everything I've read and seen about them is true. Rock-solid, built like a brick, construction. Amazing how smooth this solid piece of knife beauty is. Smooth as glass and locks up like a vault. And the size, this is a 3.5, is substantial but fits great in my pocket. I'd like a 24 now, but this really feels, to me, like the goldilocks of the three. Just right. Not too big not too small.

Also the size allows me to carry a nice slipjoint for use in more public situations.

Just thought I'd share my new acquisition.

Congrats, Great score and Yes (IMO) my GoldiLocks as well. Love ALL sizes and permutations but the 3.5" XM is "just right".

Now you are "Bit" so....... there ya' have it :)

Just to be clear....... 3" and 24's ain't leavin' the collection :p

Sweeet!!!
I love my 24, Only problem now is every other knife
seems somewhat inadequate, Once I have the funds,
I'll pick up a 3 and 3.5
Best of luck with it and welcome to the club:)

Thanks. I've been lurking the Hinderer subforum for a while and it feels like a good one.

Hey Tony! I've been doing the same thing! 3.5" in my right pocket so I'm prepared for any situation and a little Mnandi in pouch deep in pocket for 90% of my daily cutting and public use. Works out perfectly! Congrats on buying the world's best knife (imo) and welcome to the herd.

3.5 is often described as the Goldilocks of the XMs. It is a great starting point. It seems that most anyone that handles or buys either of the other two sizes, seeks to experience the 3.5. And it's also true that some who start with a 3.5 know if smaller or larger or (same size) is sought next.

Congrats on getting your 1st XM-18, & a 3.5" also. That's the best starting point IMO. The next one I got afterwards was the XM-24 to see if I could handle it, then later on found a role I could implement the 3" into.
The 3" is quite friendly in public.

I have no issues with any size XM in public.

Congrats! My preference is an 3.5 for edc since I have big hands. I do rotate a 4" also...:D:D

What happened to the 3"? Is it forlorn and unloved now? :(

Great pics! Enjoy it, my first was the same, a 3.5" spanto flipper. Can't beat it.

And of course having it less than a week I had to get some bronze standoffs from GP Knives.

No, it's still much loved, just by someone else in the herd!!! :p I sold it recently because the Gen 1 is now my main EDC with an Mnandi sidekick for sheeple. I had to let a couple of knives go to finance a new hobby, salt water reef tank and the 3" is replaceable down the road.

Ahhh yes, another promiscous XM.... :d :D
