My first Hinderer (or : I joined the club)

An added benefit to flippers is that the flipper acts to protect your thumb from the blade, when closing the knife, after disengaging the frame lock.

Everything N2K said and I might add, with gloves or cold (or damaged) hands - the flipper adds that needed extra level of manipulation. Really shows how well engineered and designed these knives are. The flipper is definitely a safety plus when deployed and used in a forward motion saving the index finger from moving onto and down the length of the blade.

Nice! I've been looking for prices and couldn't find ANY xm-18's. are they that sold out? how much does one usually cost (new)?

Check the sticky.
If you are not able to order direct, watch the sales threads here on BF.
Also use Hinderer web site to get list of authorized dealers.

They are hard to come by, if you can`t order directly from Hinderer knives. I was lucky enough to score one at a decent price from a local forum. Took a few months to get lucky though.
