Hey guys! i finally got my grail knife.. Ever since i saw a picture of John's Hiker, i just HAD to have one! and I couldnt be more happy with the quality of this knife. It takes and holds an edge unbelievably well, easiest knife to sharpen that ive ever had. I can comfortably say that this knife is the best knife ive ever owned. Ive owned Fiddlebacks, Kosters, and many, many more, but none of them compare to this Hiker!
I love the design, simple, and extremely practical. Its a user, and it was built to be that way. The blade cuts very well into wood. Better than any of my Scandi knives, i could say its about like a convex, the way it slices through the wood. The handle, though somewhat thin, is surprisingly very comfy! The balance of the knife is superb, i honestly cannot think of anything bad to say about this knife.
The sheath is amazing. I love the look of the finish on the sheath, and it is very comfortable to carry. It also holds the knife very well.
I havent gotten to use it too much though, mainly just on day hikes, im going camping in a few days, and in three weeks, im heading out to Colorado to go backpacking, and i will definitely take this Hiker with me!
The knife does very well with fine work, ive made a few snares and traps, and this knife is great. The ruggedness of the knife also allows for some pretty intense batonning! I tried to go through a piece of wood that was just nothing but knots, and the Hiker looked like the blade was about to snap in half, took it out, and the blade was as straight as an arrow!
I cannot say enough good things about this blade, Im going to have to order some more JKs in the future for sure!!!!
sorry for the glare on the blade.. Im not a pro at taking pictures!
This.Thing.Is.Sharp!
Time for some Batonning! The wood is freshly cut Bradford Pear, its all i had..
This thing was FULL of knots
I couldnt get through the second branch because there was a pretty intense knot at the end, the knife blade was bending very sharply. I really didnt want to break it, so i stopped.
Thanks, John, for this AMAZING knife! Feathersticks with this knife is so fun to do... and easy!
So there it is! my first, but definitely not my last JK!
