My first Khukri has a strange handle :-)

Here is my first Khukri.

The only thing I know is that it has been bought in India (surely in a tourist shop), and the blade is very heavy (really). The blade seems to be glued within the handle (with a dirty red glue... a poor job... you can see a part of this glue if you look carefully). But despite this ugly detail, the knife is very pleasant to handle, seems to be very robust, and mostly the handle really fits into the hand.

I had never seen a handle like this on a khukri and I wanted to see if some of you, as most have experience in khukris, know something (history, use...) about that kind of handle...

My guess is this rig may be the result of two failures -- the handle on the khukuri and the blade on some sword. Never waste anything.

The handle is one that I've seen more often on Tulwars. It is a variation in that it does not have the D-guard that you would usually see on tulwars. I think I would agree with Uncle Bill that it might be the result of failure of the original handle on the khukuri and failure of the blade that was on attached to the tulwar handle. Have you tried using the khukuri at all?

I stumbled across it while trying to find a handle that matched the one on your great grandfather's old garden dagger. I've seen the handle style before, but poor memory rules supreme

You're right Walosi, this one is very similar to my khukri. And it is said it is heavy too... how heavy is a khukri usually?
(this one has a 35cm blade, and it weights maybe 1kg or 1.2kg)

Arvind: no, I have not tried to use it.
Nobody to kill in my street ;-)

Two to 2.5 pounds is a decent sized khukuri.
