My first Khukuri and a question

I finally took the plunge and decided to check out a HI khukuri. First of all it was delivered quicker then I dreamed possible, that was awesome. I ended up buying the Dhankuta Kothimoda from the 12/2 post on this forum. I was suprised a bit when I first opened it as it was a little smaller then I expected. Not sure why as I did pay attention to the specs, guess I have always had visions of the monsters khuks. It is also clearly very well made and the handle is beautiful. Much more so then the pictures are able to show.

Now here is my question and concern. I notice that the blade has a crack (for lack of better word) that runs through the spine about an inch and half back from the tip. Is this anything that I should be concerned about? Here are a couple of pics, sorry they aren't clearer:

It looks pretty big. I'd send it back and perhaps trade it in for something bigger, if that's what you originally wanted.

E-mail Uncle Bill if he doesn't reply to the thread in the next hour or so.

Nice towel though. :)

I agree. Before i saw the pic I was thinking it was a minor fold mark from the forging. However, that's pretty big and a little to close to the tip not to worry about, IMHO. Don't worry, Uncle Bill will make it right. What are you looking for in a khuk? That might help you decide what you want to trade it for. Glad to see you take the plunge:) Be careful, they'll multiply on you if you're not careful;)

You likely saw the length notation & expected the blade to be that length.
All lengths here are OverAllLengths (OAL) unless otherwise specified.

UBE will trade it for another.
That seems to me a bit beyond blem ,
& the 12/2 post implies it's -not- a blem.
Mistakes happen.
Look at the handle & check that it's the same as the posted pic from that day.

You are exactly right about the length ddean. I read through the HI site last night and got a much better understanding. The size is not a big deal to me though as I like it so well that my first thought was "better buy another bigger one". The "crack" is another story however as my eye just keeps going to it and I worry about it being so close to the tip. And this is indeed the same Khuk posted in the for sale post, I can see the distinct marks in the handle.

I will contact Uncle Bill about exchanging and/or buying another and have no worries about dealing with HI. I have already spotted others that are calling to me. Bummer thing for me is that they get snatched up fairly quickly once posted.

Bill - would it be ok to send it to me for inspection, etc.? I'd like to see this crack...figure it out. Email sent.

Ah, HI customer service--I don't think it gets any better.

IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN YANGDU AND UNCLE BILL!
Extremely honest and fine people.
