Hey everyone. Ive always wanted to make a knife and i finally drew up what i wanted to make its a 3.5 or so inch blade and a 4 inch or so handle. I want to use a micarta for the handle scales and brass pins to attach handles.Could i just use epoxy to attach the handles without pins? Im most likely going to use 1080 or 1095 carbon steel. But which of those to is easier to heat treat and temper? Also without a heat treating oven could i put it in very hot coals til it turns red hot and then quench? or whats the process for those steels? Also how should i quench it in water or like vegetable oil or motor oil? Sorry for all the questions. im very new to this.

Go with pins. The epoxy, even the strongest you can buy, won't hold the scales well enough. A hard knock will break those scales off easily. Make sure you use both pins and epoxy.

How do you plan on making this knife? Are you just going to cut it out and shape it on a grinder?

yes. I will cut it out. Shape it on a grinder and sand it with a belt sander till i get the finish i want. And thank you for the pictures of that knife. i want my handle to look like that. Thanks guys. Now im going to order some 1080 and handle material. Once i start making this i will keep you updated.
thanks.
