My first knife build

Hey guys, I made a knife, it's a copy of a knife I have, but I gotta start some where right:D

Anyways, here she is beside my busse game warden. cheers

Thanks Mike!! It's hard to do. I still gotta make my handles more refined, other than that, she cuts like crazy. Now we will have to see how it holds an edge.
 
It is a piece of steel brake plate from a Caterpillar 797 truck, I got it from work. CAT won't tell me what it is, it's their own propietary steel, but I know that it has .85% carbon and 1.3% manganese, with some other trace elements. It's hard, and takes an awesome edge. The best part is that I have an unlimited supply, and is .160" thick, so I can just cut the knives to shape.I am going to test it out for edge retention. Anyone know any good edge retention tests short of destroying the thing?

I will compare it to my 1095, AUS8 and infi knives.
 
Yes, I heated it to austenitizing temperature, held it there for a short time and quenched it in oil. I then tempered it for one hour at 500°F
