I finally finished my first knife. I posted some pictures when I first forged the blade at a knife making class. I just got around to putting a handle on it. I got a block of black oak burl from Burl Source (thanks again Mark!) as part of a giveaway. I have to say that this wood was awesome to work with, and the danish oil finish really makes it pop.
The blade is 3" long forged from O1 bar stock, hollow ground, and edge quenched in canola oil. After rough grinding I hand rubbed it to a 400 grit finish.
The guard is mild steel from Lowes with a 320 grit finish.

Love it! Good lines, you have a good eye. Finish is outstanding for a first knife.

Looking forward to more from you.

Very nice first knife....kudos.

On the next one try making the ricasso a bit shorter. The knife will handle better.

Again, good job.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

I never liked the ricasso, but I had very limited time on the grinder at the class. It was either leave the ricasso long, or spend all my time grinding the ricasso and maybe not finish the knife. I definitely learned a lot on this knife that will help me with my next.
There are also a couple large divots on one side of the blade from my cross peen that I couldn't grind out.
Thanks for the advice!

You appear to have some talent there son.

Nice job.

Now if I could only find a knifemaking class.

Very nice! Good clean lines! Most first knives have very blocky handles because a new maker doesn't remove enough material or shape enough. You though have done very well.

Very nice job:thumbup: I really like the blade shape and that handle looks great!! Keep it up.
