well its finally done, mostly. I still need to mirror polish and buff it. also it needs to be engraved but I can't afford the equipment to do this yet so i'm calling it finished (for now).
I spent a little over a month working on this knife. the only power tool used was a dremel for the filework and a belt sander to taper the tang. the rest was done by hand. I am very proud of myself and I think I did a great job for a first attempt. here is the finished product and some WIP pics I took along the way. I started out with a blade blank since I live in an apartment and I don't really have the means to be grinding out blades yet.

Can't wait to make the next one! let me know what you think.

good choice in blank. I like the file-work it looks to fit with the "western" I see in this knife.

Don't let the apartment keep you from making a knife from start to finish! My first knife (Check out my WIP) was made with hand tools on a picnic bench. Now I'm using a HF 1x30 on the same picnic bench :)

One suggestion... don't worry about etching this knife (although it can be done for under 10$), save your makers mark for the first knife you design and make from start to finish. It'll mean more to you I promise :)

i have been eyeing those hf 1x30's

I have a porter cable combo 4"x36" belt and 8" disk Model #: PCB420SA

but it runs way too fast for my liking, i may try and go the file route for the next blade.

Thanks krist! I didnt intend on bringing that filework all the way around at first but it just kind of kept going haha. Im glad i took it the full length though.
