My first knife

I felt like I was fighting against my own stupid mistakes the whole time making this. There's many errors, but I'm pretty happy with my first knife. This was made on a 2x42 craftsman belt grinder. It's 1084, vucanized rubber liner, and an osage orange handle. Any advice or critiques are appreciated. Can't wait to make another one! :)

Very nice for a first go. Just a few things i noticed right away:

Your lanyard hole would be more beneficial the top of your handle.
Your handle seems to have far more mass on the back end on one side.

That is a super first try. Be careful not to let your plunge line run off the top of the blade on your next one. The handle is a bit blocky but looks comfortable. I'd also move the lanyard hole slightly farther away from the edge so you don't end up with a thin fragile piece of wood between the hole and the edge. As you progress, concentrate a little more of getting your gaps nice and tight. Overall though it looks like a nice usable knife made out of good materials.

Only thing I would add is to taper the front of the handle down. I put a 45 degree angle on mine and then round them off. It just feels better if you have to use a pinch grip. Overall it looks nice!

Thanks for the comments and advice! The belt grits I used were 60 + 120 ceramic, and 220 AO. I have an A45 Trizac, but didn't use it because I haven't modified my sander yet. Two of my friends have asked me if I would make them one. :)

Trust me, all friends want knives. But are they prepared to pay for them??? That's been my experience anyway..

My friend and I both finished Helle Temegami blades. His was quite blocky similar to yours and mine is more rounded. Bothe of us prefer our own handle. I would suggest more roundness to your handle, but I get how some people prefer a blockier shape.

Pretty nice knife though. Keep at it.

Great looking knife. I've hade problems with discolouration around the pins/bolts when using open pored lighty colored wood and a dirty workshop. Go with a finer grained darker wood like apple to make it less noticeable. Also the the spacer steel gluing has some discoloration to it. I over size the blank and grind down to get this clean. But over all great jobb.
