My First Knife

I am not surprised at your first trys turning out so good. Nope, not a bit. Your work speaks for itself. As for Dave's knife that was stolen, I hope the lowlife that stole it fell on it and cut himself to the bone from his crotch to his ear. And then he caught fire and fell into a deep dung pit, and then...................................... .

I miss those guys too. At least there are still a few "old timers" around here - like IG, he's been here since dirt. When I was a newbie you sent me a bunch of back issues of Blade magazine, which I still go back to. Someday I'll quit being selfish and send them off to someone else... :o

I got a charge out of seeing Roger was about to make his first knife - look at him now! Full time and kicking keester. And then there's Brian - I can remember when he was seriously wet behind the ears, ;) and now he's had his work evaluated in Blade.

It's cool to watch makers come in and grow up. This is a great place and I really appreciate everyone in it.

Hey, what's the deal? What happened to those guys? Take their toys and go home? I haven't thought about it until now, but I miss them also!

As I can recall Bruce Evans got caught up in the game of life and took a day job. He has posted here on the odd occassion, but it has been a while since his last post.

I am only a couple of hours from his place. I may try to call him up tonight, and see if he is still beating up hot stuff. His work was kickin!

I just lurk here now, but have noticed alot of the old timers have quit posting. What is going on?

They always had interesting input for this board; I miss them as well.

Seems like it hasn't been so long since I saw Peter Nap posting here. Did something happen to him?

I should hope he just got busy, and doesn't have time to post (I recall he had a day job too).

Lots of good folks on this board, and lots of talent. I hate to see any of you stop posting.

I really miss those guys too. I liked Don's humor and seeing Bruce's cool blades. Since this is a first knife thread here's mine. D2 and bone.

I used it on a couple of deer and I wouldn't ever part with it. :)

Maybe the lack of posts is because most of us old coots are pretty busy right now. Just a guess, anyhow.
It looks like you are not to busy and you are a real old coot and I don't see a pic.  You Ole Treerat Eatter HEHEHE!!!

I think there have been some sour grapes the last few months and a lot of makers are pretty independent sorts! So "toeing the line" doesn't necessarily fit everyone. Also, most of us have actual jobs and when the making starts to heat up the first thing to give is this, which is sort of a combination of service and recreation for many of the busier makers. If time's pressing you can understand why someone would have to opt for their family and career/avocation first. Mind you, this is all conjecture on my part; I'm not in correspondence with many people outside this forum so I'm just guessing based on hints of whispers I'm not even sure I grokked. I suspect more people are lurking than we'd guess, just keeping tabs on how everyone's doing and who's coming along. At least, I would be. It doesn't take as much time to read as to become involved, and you can still be a part of this cool thing going on. Well, that's enough society for me! :D Later.

Plus, a lot of makers like IG are sold old they didn't have cameras when they made their first knives! Hell, they weren't even painting on caves yet!

Plus, it's Springtime - some makers actually spend time in their yards and around the house maintaining stuff! :D Personally I hide as much as I can but my oh-so-sweet wife has figured out most of my hiding places. But being lazy, I spend many of the remaining little slivers of time here rather than being productive in my shop...

Plus, my shop is in the basement! Who the hell wants to be in the basement when he could be enjoying a dark cigar and a dark beer on the deck, watching neighbor ladies mow their lawns in their favorite "summer attire"? :D

Dave, how do you like that, that old coot IG calling me old? Kinda like the kettle calling the pot black, huh? Yep, it's a very busy time of year for many of us, including ol' scooter riding IG. Dave, is your neighbor lady a redhead?

Like I said above......with Blade just a few weeks out I figure there are some who are trying to get things done.

I don't think I could resist the temptation to sit back with a cigar and a beer and watch a good looking redhead mowing either! Unfortunately my neighbor lady is not good looking in any attire.....YUCK.... :barf: :barf: :barf:

IG....What is wrong with squirrel? I eat squirrel. I like eating the thing rather than having it eat my house. As a matter of fact city squirrel is well fed and very healthy for you......SO IS CAT....THE OTHER WHITE MEAT.

I was born in 1948 and you were born in 1945. Now I do not know how you count ( I know over ten you take your moccasins off) but that makes you 3 years older. :p :D

CAT.....THE OTHER WHITE MEAT!

I have eaten cat, dog, possum, coon, rattlesnake, rabbit, squirrel, and so many other things it would make your head spin. I grew up in the country where some things were common, and have been to places where things like dog and cat were common place items on a menu. Eating in foreign countries is like a box of chocolates man! You never know what you are gonna get!

Hey, cat is much better than treerat and you can use the skins for pillowcases for your doll bed.

On another matter, I thought some of the paintings in Chauvet looked an awful lot like your avatar - especially some of those bulls. :D What the heck did riders ride 32,000 years ago?!

As a matter of fact John, my neighbor is a redhead; perhaps you got a glimpse one day? Rather worthwhile, I must say. And the tiny thing across the street is just fine too...but she neither mows nor runs in the neighborhood. Nor does her daughter. Alas.

Okay! Now for a reality check. On the other side of our house live two guys... They're sweet too, but not so engaging as the other neighbors. (Interesting in their own way perhaps.) But ironic as the world turns, it's the two guys who come over for beer & BBQ, not any of the ladies. Think my wife has any influence on that? She sure isn't friendly to the redhead. :D

Too bad it's rainy this evening. Maybe a good night for a little shop time!
