My first knife

Matt,
My friend has been making knives for about a year. He has a Bader grinder.

Anyway, I've been able to use his equipment to see if this is something a really like before dropping 3 to 4 grand on building a shop in my basement and getting the equipment I need. So sorry Matt if it sounds stange, but it is what it is. And Yes I'm hooked and I'll begin building a nice shop in my basement in the next couple of weeks. There will be more to come.

When I started back in 97-98 I didn't have any bank roll of 3-4 LARGE "As they say now" one of the things it did was make me do reseach. these days there is so much more knife making equitment:eek: on the market. I sugguest that you try as many grinding rigs, disc grinders and setups as you can! This book will give you lots of ways to get started and ideas as well. Get wayne goddards book "fifty dollar knife shop. HEY GUYS! Looks like another one put there foot in the SNARE!:D Have fun!

Thanks. I got that book and have read it 2 or 3 times already. It a good one. :)

sorryn i just figured out how to quote

probably more than that add me ti the list but i dont have that kinna change to toss at a knife shop:rolleyes: or even a basement to mention it

That's a very clean first knife! You clearly have the eye and hand for the work, I wish you well in all you make.

One thing I might suggest though is to take a look at the KMG-1. I bought a Bader too but had I known about the KMG at the time I would have saved myself a few hundred dollars and bought the best knifemaker's grinder made. Nothing wrong with the Bader, but Rob managed to roll the best of every knifemaker's machine into one, and it's a tank! If you do end up with a Bader, consider using Rob's tool rests - far superior to anything else. Just my opinion, everybody's got one. ;)
