Made this out of an old file in the garage. The handle is made from a piece seasoned cherry out of the wood pile. I had very little blade material to work with and limited tools but, I did the best I could. I'm proud of it. Let me know what ya think!

Sorry about the quality of the pics, I took them with a cell phone.

the blade design is a bit odd, though I can see uses for a shallow clip like that.

The handle looks ergonomic, though I'd personally round it out a bit more.

The file work is really great, especially for a first knife.

Overall I'd say it's well balanced and I'd wear it with a kilt happily :)

Good job, and a heck of a lot better than my first. The handle looks comfy, and the blade good profile, though it looks a little croked'. I generaly like to have the handle and blade in a line, though I can see uses for that handle blade shape. The file work is a nice touch.

Now it's too late for you, your bitten.

Congratulations! Not too shabby at all for your first knife.

Welcome to Bladeforums. Start your next knife....... :)

Cool. Isn't it fun to cut something with your own blade?

Hey, thanks for all the commendable compliments people! It definately is fun to cut something with my own blade Fiddleback. :) And you're right Will, I am bitten. :D I just need to get a bench grinder to make light of the work on my next one.. I used a hand file for most of the work and it took forever. You will see more of my work in the future. Thanks again for the praising.

Welcome to Blade Forums, be sure and support the forum, the knife maker class is not real expensive. You did well on your first. Have a good one.

was the first knife I ever made. Started it when I was 14, softened a nicholson file with a bernz-o-matic, filed it seemingly forever, when I was in college at RIT there was a grad student in the metals program who was making knives who let me use his Bader belt grinder, and showed me how to heat treat. I finished the knife when I was 19, so I guess I have 5 years in on the construction of that one. First thing it ever cut was a solingen stainless knife on a bet. ;D

Your first knife looks great! Now let's see your second.
