My First Knife

What is is with you Canadian collectors making incredible first knives? First Roger, now you.

Truely a fine piece of work. The blade design and grind are impeccable for a first knife. You do have a remarkable gift. I hope to see more.

OMG!!!! You should be very proud! I am for you!!!!

Love it!!!!

regardless of whether it's your first or 30th, really nice:thumbup:
And the fact that you carry a bowie out to do yardwork is awesome!:D
really impressive

Have you got a pic of that rig on? It looks great, I'm just trying to envision how the straps work.

That is one remarkable first piece my friend....everything flows beautifully on the blade, guard, and handle. Great Work!

Thanks again everyone... I'm really buoyed by all the support.

It's just slung over the shoulder. Nothing too fancy. When I say "yard work"... we live on 1.5 acres of semi-forest with lots of prickly bushes and stuff that I'm slowly clearing so as my kids get more adventurous, there's more room to play and explore.
I'm not hiking so I don't need it secure to my belt or anything, just something so I can quickly put it on and then if I want to run around with the kids I can just take it off and hang it on a branch.

It's also quickly removable from the sheath itself as this is a view of the back but from a different sheath.

Thanks a lot everyone!! It's really encouraging to hear this. The photos do hide a few of the areas I had troubles with but I learned a lot from making this first knife.
Others' work-in-progress threads and books were really helpful but at least for me, I don't really learn except by doing.

The sheath isn't my first..:o I've been making them for guys up here in Canada for a little while now. This was just a quick user sheath I made so I can carry the knife out to do a little yard work. I added my preferred carry system for large knives (with a little flair) the other night.

Tools used for this knife.
- Viele 1"x42" belt grinder
- 4"x36" belt grinder (for part of the handle and flattening the blade)
- assorted files
- lots of sandpaper
- dremel

Can't wait to get a 2"x72" grinder and later try forging.

Here's a couple photos from this morning.

I am seriously impressed with the baldric setup and the knife itself, I really like it and congrats...I have a baldric with my RMJ forge tomahawk and its perfect to carry like that.

For your first I hope you intend to keep it...I will be keeping an eye out for more from you :)

PS. towards the tip on the curve is that a small chip or reflection on the blade?

That is an awesome looking bowie. I'm with everyone else, that's more than impressive considering it's your first one
I also love the baldric idea with the sheath, now if only I could justify getting a setup like that.

If you mean the last pic, it's a stick I think... I sent it to a guy in Alberta for heat treat and I think he did a seriously good job of it. I haven't hit any stones yet but I did some good whacking this weekend and the edge is as just sharpened except for the grime.

-i doubt that

Honestly it is...:p

I also love the baldric idea with the sheath,

I find it's my preferred carry method. It's so quick to put on and take off and is very easy to use. I also really like how it looks.

ahhh yes it is :foot: glad to see you're out using that beast.
