Hey guys. I have been lurking around the forums for a while now and asking questions here and there and figured it time to introduce myself. My name is Darren Swerid and to date I have been a professional student. I have been taking Geomatics Engineering, fancy term for every to do with mapping (ie. land surveying to satellite imagery). It's been a long haul and I am coming up on my final year of schooling.

In High school, roughly ten years ago, my dad got into knife making and I started one for myself. It was done all by a hack saw, files and sand paper. It took forever and it's probably why I fell out of it. Once the HT was done I haven't touched it since.

Zoom ahead to last summer. My party chief (I work for a land surveying company during the summer months), got into knife making and showed me what he could do with a 2 X 72 grinder. Needless to say it re-sparked my interest. I went looking for my old blade to finish it off but couldn't find it. So I started on a new blade. I picked up a couple sets of mammoth tooth scales from Charles Turnage and a bunch of other wood scales off of ebay. However by the end of summer I hadn't quite finish the new blade for HT and school work overcame me once again.

I just finished my school year and moved back home to work for the summer and I managed to find my first blade. I have also started on my 3rd and 4th blanks. The 3rd blank is almost ready for HT and the 4th blank I roughed out this afternoon.

My blades in order of being made from top to bottom. The 1st and 3rd are made out of 440C and the 2nd and 4th are made out of ATS. Since I can't do any grinding while in school (just no where but outside to do it and it gets cold here during the winters) I am trying to get a couple blades ready for HT so i have something to work on this winter.

I hope you guys don't mind a few more newbie questions from me in the near future! :D
