My first Kukri - The Waiting...

My wife was born on Vancouver Island. Wish I was a bit further north, you could get em shipped to me and I could meet you somewhere this side of the border and hand off. It's a 2 to 2 1/2 hour trip to the border for me though.
Have a nephew in Bellingham that would be a little closer.

Unfortunately it would be an even longer trip for me, plus a ferry ride... Could likely buy another blade or three for the cost of travel.

Fortunately however, my Kukri has been released and will arrive tomorrow morning:)

See, it likely wasnt due to the paperwork. Yangdu has filled out literally thousands of them and knows how to do it. It was more likely Canadian customs taking their sweet time.

I didn't mean to say Yangdu doesn't know how to fill out the customs form, but the paperwork does get ripped off on occasion, or partially destroyed. Either by malicious machine or disgruntled employee somewhere along the line. I've had it happen a few times, and that would cause such a delay.

I'm tearing up a little bit here, these happy endings just rip my guts out!

I'm filled with joy!

Yeah I remember that now, went there once, seems like it took forever to get there.

I haven't crossed the border for probably 25 years, went to Victoria many times and the surrounding area.

I got my first kukri in the mail this morning, no duties either which was nice. The thickness and heft of this blade surprised me, it's a full 1/2" thick and 16.5" overall. It has a gorgeous satsal wood handle which is very dark in color (almost black).

I am curious as to its lack of Kami marks though...? Anyone know why this is?

What blade did you order from Yangdu Woodsplitter? Was it a DOTD? doesn't look like it.

Sometimes kamis do forget to mark their blades, but yours is devoid of any, I don't really know what to say.

Best advice I can give, is to contact auntie and ask her.

It's a brand new 15" AK, not a DOTD. I sent Yangdu an email.

I would ask auntie. She usually labels the blade at the shop, before she stores it. She then takes it off before shipping to the customer. I'll bet that she knows who the kamis is and the blades dimensions.

It looks perfect in everyway except the lack of kami marks. They must just have missed it or something.

Makes it rather unusual for an HI knife.

Like Cul said, only Auntie knows for sure.

I really can't find anything wrong with it at all, save for the missing marks. It doesn't bother me much, and perhaps it just makes it a little more interesting:)

I agree, more interesting. I'd still ask auntie if she knows or remembers who made it just so you know.

Some here could probably tell just by looking, my eye is not that fine tuned.

Could even be from one of the older kamis that didn't use marks, no way to know.

I sent her an email roughly an hour ago. I'm looking forward to finding out!

I don't know about the lack of markings, but it looks to me like a beautiful WWII model. It has the single-line Sword of Shiva, whereas the AK usually has a more elaborate SoS. More significant, there's no top fuller, unless it's obscured by the photo glare. The thick spine is typical of the WWII model.

Here's an example of an AK by Kumar for comparison:

And here's a WWII by Vim:

Oops, I just noticed the earlier pictures of AKs in this thread. Anyway, comparing my second picture with your new pictures, it seems likely that what you have is a WWII, and a very nice one at that. Functionally the two models are pretty similar, and the WWII is a bit more versatile.

How interesting... I agree, I think it might just be a WWII...

It was a toss up between the WWII and the 15" AK for me, but I decided on the 15" AK due to the shorter length and slightly lighter weight. I wanted to be able to carry it in my pack, and this apparent WWII model doesn't quite fit my Falcon 2 unfortunately.

It is a beautiful blade though.

Contact auntie, I am sure she will be able to address every one of your concerns to your satisfaction.

I can't help with the lack of kami mark, but that blade is definitely a WWII model.

So you ordered an AK and got an unmarked WW instead. It could have been worse.

I may share some of my own very recent experiences, one of these days...if I do, you will understand my reaction.

No doubt, HI will attempt to solve the problem, if you are unhappy with he blade.
