My first kukri

Well,

The HI talwar really doesn't resemble a classic form Talwar. The HI talwar actually bears a closer resmblence to a Falchion than anything else. It has a heavy, thick blade, slightly curved, with most of it's power lying in it's last third of length. Manocher collects various swords, and I'm not sure if he has seen the picture of the HI talwar. If he hasn't, he might think it will look like other talwars in his collection.

HI, is, however, growing close to making a "Saber" the HI saber will in fact look like a classic talwar! It has been built in relation to pics of classic talwars and certainly will be an excellent piece, but it probably won't appear for a few months.

Other sword options include the katana...which,IMHO, is the most usable HI sword. They are made to an approximate design, but are all pretty different, however, if you wan't a custom made kat, hurry up...because a little birdy told me that Uncle Bill might not be taking special orders for much longer.

There is also the 30" sirupati, which is quite a beast, an would be akin to something like a yataghan...however it is quite thick and heavy...

Also, there is the 30" kobra...AKA scythe with a short handle. Very fast and quite intimidating shape, however, it is not really made for intense work because itis thin+it tends to have the eye-of-the-dove cho, these things make the Kobra's integrity possibly less than other khuks...but it's calling card is that it packs alot of power in a fast blade. In any case, the Kobra isn't really made anymore, so it would be a special order.

and finally, the behemoth, the Janawar Katne.
There are only about a dozen in the U.S. for good reason. They're huge and difficult to make.
The Janawar Katne this forum is familiar with is the one made by Durba from a few months ago. It's huge and heavy, and very, very dangerous to swing. However, most people don't know it is an Ang Khola styled Janawar, it was special ordered to be that way. Not all Janawar's are such Goliaths. They'll all be 38", but won't have the 1/2 thick spine of the Durba Janawar. Oh yeah, one more thing, if the shop is backed up (like it was 2 weeks ago, and still might be) a Janawar can take upwards of 4 months

Thanks Matt. Though it wasn't your intent you cleared something up for me - the HI sword is called a "talwar" instead of "tarwar". I had never paid much attention to seeing the first spelling because it doesn't look much like the talwars I've seen at all, and I thought it was something different.
