Since I got my WSK from Dan, I've seen the great advantage of kydex for a large knife. It takes a whole lot of leather to do a big knife sheath, and it becomes quite heavy. The kydex sheath is light, secure, and safe too. Anyway I got some to do a sheath for my BK7, thanks again Bladite.

Heres the result.

It came out better than expected. The rivets look a little wuugly, and there is a gap in the seam at one point.

LOL. It just sounds stupid to say out loud.

A toaster oven, a bandsaw, a hand drill, a screwdriver, and a ball peen hammer with a rivet setter set.

Wow, reminds me of my wedding night..... :)

Seriously, Andy, very nice work. I may have to get something like that for a few of mine.

ROTFLMAO!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

PM me if you want one. I don't have my website up yet.

Kydex is not the prettiest material out there...but you can't argue with the weight savings. ;)

Looking good, Andy!!

Really, its not that good. It was so damn easy to do it was sick. Everything is patterned after dans WSK sheath as far as the mouth is concerned. I sure appreciate the words guys. Its a fun material to use because the sheath materializes in a very short time. Its like poof. Sheath done.

Yo Andy,
How about a pic of the back?? I wanna see how ya got it mounted...That seems to be the problem I am having in getting mine going

Thanks

Man that stuff molds like it was vacumn sealed . So thats your first try ? You are already doing it like a pro . How is the fit ?

I like my kydex sheath on my necker and appreciate its functionality . I can have it in my front pocket and thumb flick the sheath off . Like Sarge says "all you gotta do is slouch with your hands in your pocket and suddenly you have a knife in your hands ."

Honestly I am going to make an outer sheath for my necker kydex out of rawhide and dry/shrink that into place with maybe a pocket for a firesteel and whatnot .

Really nice Andy! I see you got the aftermarket micarta scales for your BK7. I have the desert tan one and they look just as nice if not more so on that. Kydex is a big improvement over the standard Becker sheath w/ insert.

Not stupid at all! I just finished a khuk scabard.

I used my stove, 2 towels, needle files, rivets, scissors and a bic lighter.:D

Oh, and cardboard for the blade shape.

But how did you get it sooo flat? Mine is a lil bit warped along the edges.

Ya know kydex has its own kind of beauty . Its sleekness and texture are pleasing . Riding on the hip or in a pocket there is no unsightly bulge to ruin the lines of dress clothes . Its strong stuff . If the sheath was the right shape it would make a good jabbing weapon . I don,t know if it could parry a blade though I suspect it would do well .

While it may not suit the nature of a classic hunting knife it does go well with modern functional blades . I do wonder how A Fairbairn Sykes (sp) commando dagger would look with it . Matte black on matte black . It may take some designing to get them to work together well . I think it would be worth the effort .

This was my first try. I got lucky I had good threads to read here. I've got a pic of the back and a pick of my 'press' below. The press is a piede of cardboard with foam glued to it that had been packing material for some kinda electronics here at work. He he. Ready made. I assume thats why it came out flat. I would think towels are the source of your problem, but what the hell do I know. Took the kydex out of the toaster, put it on the foam, folded it over the knife, then put a heavy steel tilting machine table on it for a while. I had to heat it for a second with the heat gun to straighten out some minor things. The fit is nice and tight. No movement, but no so tight you can't get it out. A few of the rivets are not perfect. I'll get better. I may invest in the press rivet spreaders. The spacing of the rivets was dictated by the belt attachment thingie.
