My first leather sheath

I just finished this one up. This as a very late Christmas present for my brother-in-law. I screwed up the first knife I was working on for him, so this is "take 2". The handle material was supposed to be black paper micarta. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a somewhat splotchy dark brown. It doesn't look that bad, just not what I was planning on. Anyway, after reading several tutorials, I thought it was time to try my hand at some leather work. It's far from perfect, but it's better than the "summer camp project" I expected.

Knife Specs-
Steel: 3/16" A2
OAL: ~11.5"
Blade Length: 6"
Hardware: 304 SS
Convex grind
I machine finished the blade and bolsters at 600 grit

This is a design I've had sitting around for a while, and it need some tweaks, but I think I'll make a similar one at some point... probably hollow ground.

Thanks for looking,

Really like the knife, Mark

The sheath looks good, too. Your b-i-l will be pleased.

I really like that knife and the sheath just completes the package! The brother in law is a lucky guy.

Good looking Knife!! Very nice touch on the swedge.

How did you stitch your sheath, by Hand or did you use a machine? It looks like it fits well.

Thanks guys! I hand stitched the sheath. I took a divider and marked where i wanted the holes. Then put a finishing nail with the head ground off and the point sanded smooth in the drill press to punch the holes. Just hand stitched after that. I can't remember where I saw the info about using a drill press, but it works pretty well if you're careful to set your drill stop and keep things close to level.
