So I had been in the market for an Victorinox Alox Cadet. I bought one for a great deal and love the knife! Super slim with a generous amount of tools.

Oh yeah...

IT'S SHARP.

I was at work pulling the Blade out when I hear a snap and watched some blood spatter onto the stainless steel counter my hand was over. I took one step over to the sink and snapped a picture while I asked my co-worker for the first aid kit.

Basically I underestimated the blade to handle retention. As I began to pull the blade out with my thumb and middle finger it slipped out and snapped over my index finger vertically.

This was a few days ago and the cut is still wide open, but not bleeding. I could easily have used a couple stitches and have found the Liquid Bond from my local CVS is not strong enough to keep the crevice closed. Hope it closes up without needing to stitch it.

It's too late for stitches or glue. Just let it heal like it is.

Oh yeah, SAKs have some snap to them when they're new. Better watch out!;)

I was trying to cut a piece of bamboo with my SAK this past weekend. I was cutting carelessly and I cut my thumb wide open...on the bamboo  . I really like your unboxings on Youtube btw:thumbup:

Ouch! I've been cut by a SAK, but i was really young and cutting a piece of rope towards myself and it got the top of my thumb. When i open any blade that doesn't have a thumbstud (slipjoints mainly as they are under tension, or lockbacks) i'll kind of cup the knife in my palm with all my fingers resting/gripping the scales and pull the blade out. Once it's opened fully i'll put my fingers around the handle. I guess you learned! Hope it heals up good.

My first knife cut was from a SAK. The classic I believe. Was 7 years old and balled my eyes out.

I have never seen a Victorinox that wasn't razor sharp out of the box

They certainly do take a razor edge with no trouble at all. I lightly brushed my Cadet against the back of my knuckle and a line of blood started dripping down. The fun part is the blade was so sharp that I didn't even feel the cut.

Update
Well I woke up this morning and when checked my cut the wound has finally started to close. After 3 days of liquid bond and 3 days of removing the band-aids to find the crevice still present I thought it was never gonna close! Well one night sealed the deal. The cut is still vibrantly visible, but at least healing.

Interesting to see how many here have cuts from their SAKs!
For me they are foreign to my collection and my edc rotation so it was my ignorance to a "sheeple" knife that allowed such an accident to happen. lol

Clean cuts take the longest to heal. Rough tears from blunt or dull objects heal up much more quickly.

I did this same thing when I was like 10 with my Dad's SAK. Kinda preferred locking knives ever since....

The Cadet is one of my favorite pocket knives. I have three, the oldest is about 23 years old and was in the pocket of my tux when I got married. When I was a narco detective the UC's used to borrow it to hook up their body mikes (Kell) with the small screw driver on the can opener tip and I'm a nail biter so the file comes in handy! I buy them as gifts for friends. Great little knife but watch it, they bite!

Hey man, I remember a couple of knives biting me the exact same way! When I was younger this happened to me twice with slip joint knives. You really do have to be careful with them! Hope you heal up quick!

the trick to minimize any sliplock from accidently slipping shut is to
get a firm hold of the large blade and pull open the handle!

Hope the finger is healing for you.
Live and learn. Yes Vic SAK's have some snap and razor sharp. I learned that as well. I keep my fingers well clear of the blade when opening.
