I've been bitten by some of my Vics like that, too. They do come razor-sharp. Although the worst I've been bitten by a blade being pulled closed the last half-inch or so by its backspring, was by a spanking-new Case Canoe.

Got bit similarly by the scissors on my new Huntsman the day after I got it. Was playing with it in church and my daughter and son saw the whole thing. Thought my daughter was going to blow a blood vessel with all the laughing.

the trick to minimize any sliplock from accidently slipping shut is to get a firm hold of the large blade and pull open the handle!

Yup.
Same with closing--hold the blade, close the handle.
