Does my first official knife look good for a 14 year old making it?

Image not working. Try uploading to an image hosting site (photobucket, imgur) and link it through there.

Congrats. You did a fine job but don't stop there. Awaiting pics of Anthony Version II.

That looks a bit better than my first knife back in 1961.

The things I see that catch my eye are the cord wrap had five times too much epoxy applied to it. Just brush on a very light coating, and squeeze with an old tee shite to soak up any excess. It should all soak in in a minute and look like no resin is there. When dry the next day, you will think you didn't do it right, because it doesn't look any different than before you put on the epoxy....until you handle it. It will be rock hard and permanently in place.

It is hard to tell from the photo, but it doesn't look like there is any primary bevel, just a secondary going up a small distance from the edge. The blade should be beveled to the edge, leaving the edge about .010" wide, and then the secondary edge added.

What did you do to make it black?

I accidentally overtempered it in the oven... I did not make the primary bevel because I do not know how to. I only have a handheld beltsander that I clamp in my vise and I do not know how to make a jig to make the bevel.

No need for jigs. Just hold it and a steady angle.

If all you have is hand held sander, you might look into a 1x30.

Then again, you might get even better results with a filing jig (see stickies) and a good set of files. It will take longer than power tools, but you'll probably be happier with the end result.

Now get to working on #2!

:thumbup:this. You may be pleasantly surprised how nice of a bevel you can make with patience and a filing jig.

Not bad for a first knife! And I also suggest getting a 1x30 belt sander if you plan on making more blades.
