As the title suggests, this is my first post here. I've recently only been a lurker but I figured I might as well break the ice with a post and some pictures. I'm only fairly recently getting into knives. I was a huge gun (revolvers) and watch nut but somehow I've gotten into knives, folders to be exact.

My dad asked for a new knife for Christmas after his broke so I wondered around Dicks sporting goods for 20 odd minutes not knowingwhat the hell I was even looking for. I eventually came to the Sog Flash II and thought that might be something he'd like. Sure enough he loved it and let me play with it. Game over. Initially I thought about getting the same thing but then decided I want something smaller since I wear mostly gym shorts/light weight clothing.

I started browsing Sog's site and came across the mini aegis. I ordered one that day from Amazon. When I got it I was honestly a little underwhelmed after all the glowing reviews I watched and read. I gave it a few days and back it went. I had remembered a guy on my rugby team talking about how much he loved his benchmade so that was my next move. I remember seeing them behind glass in stores and thinking "who the hell would ever pay that much for a knife?" Funny how things change.

After more research I settled on a mini griptilian. I got it, opened the box, flipped it open, closed it, put it in the box and back it went. I couldn't justify the size, and feel for the price. I paid about $90 for it and just couldn't justify it. Still stuck on benchmade I ordered a black 707 from Amazon. During this time I was knife-less and had a $100 gift card to AcademySports burning a hole in my pocket. After playing with an 840 and deciding it wasn't worth half of the asking price I walked out with a Zero Tolerance 0350.

This thing was speaking my language. A few days later I got the 707 in the mail and, while I liked it significantly more than the griptilian it still didn't hold a candle to the 0350. The two knives were roughly the same price however only one felt like it was worth the money to me. For my uses the 0350 is absolutely overkill, but I like that. Much in the same way I don't NEED 7 rounds of .357 Magnum I sure do like having them (4 inch Smith and Wesson 686+) or NEED a watch with an altimeter, barometer or compass (Casio prw 3000 1A)

It's all peace of mind. I tend to think in worst case scenarios. If I ever had to depend on a knife for hard use tasks I want to know it's up for the job which is why I am drawn to ZT and their overbuilt knives. To me Zero tolerance is like Ruger and Benchmade is like Smith and Wesson. One is all about beauty and craftsmanship while the other is all about getting sh*t done.

We'll...as many of you know these forums are a dangerous place. I stumbled across the zt 0566 and it just came in the mail today. So far I'm in love with it and can't stop playing with it. Between my two zt's I can't decide which I like more, I like them both for different reasons.

Sorry for the long winded post but I'm sure my girlfriend is sick of hearing me talk about knives and I wanted to talk about knives dammit.

Welcome to the forum! I'm semi new here too. I have handled a few zts that my friends had, but now I'm a pretty solid spyderco follower. I edc a manix 2 xl, and I love it. Good price and good quality.

I haven't got my hands on a spyderco yet. I've been tempted by the Delica and dragonfly but I'm a little partial to black/dark blades and they don't make a lot of them. Honestly I'm pretty content with my 0566 and I'm thinking about returning the 0350. I don't need two of essentially the same knife. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

I've been saying that to myself for a while now... Looking at my purchase history, it hasn't gone well. 😁

Excellent intro! And WELCOME. Can't go wrong with the 0566 - I especially like their superbly executed stonewashing:

Welcome to the forum! Great first post and included pictures!!! The ZT knives are incredible so you are starting off great. Enjoy the trip down the rabbit hole as it is a fun one!

Welcome to the forum. I'm new here as well and the members here have been helpful. Nice ZT 0350, I have the same knife. Love the feel of it. It feels like it can cut through metal. You should also give the Spyderco Centofante 3 a try. It's an excellent folder and much more affordable than ZT knives.

Welcome, look for a ZT 0562, while your at it a good diamond sharpener or something, get something like a Kershaw leek to practice sharpening on. Its a fun hobby, enjoy it.

I was looking at that but it might be a bit too big for me. I forgot to mention in my post I bought the Spyderco Sharpmaker around the same time as the 707. I used the ceramic rods to touch up the 0350 and I understand why people tend to shy away from recurves. Getting to the back portion of the blade is a royal pain.

Welcome. I've had everything you mentioned. My ZT 566 BW is in my daily carry rotation. It is a fine, dependable folder. I'm very happy with Elmax for a blade steel and I like the way ZT does theirs. The 707 is a small knife. It's pretty solid and dependable, but it is small. The Grips & mini-Grips get that response from a lot of people, but I'll testify to their toughness. Benchmade's "Noryl" and Spyderco's "FRN" are very tough polymers that won't fail under most any circumstance. It's like Kevlar for knife chassis. I've mis-handled both Spydercos and Benchmades at work and done no damage to them, even with a long fall from a ladder to a concrete warehouse floor.

But they aren't everyone's cuppa tea. Enjoy your stay.

^^^ Great minds think alike, my friend!

OK... that's hysterical. We may need some genetic testing to see if we're related. I went through probably 5 566's until I hit on the BW one. For some reason, it just fills in the gaps the others left open. I really like it. It's the only ZT I have right now but I'm really happy with it for a folder. Goes very nicely with either my Dozier or my Northstar EDC.

So after a couple of days with the 0566 I think it has dethroned the 0350. I still like the 0350 and it's a tank of a knife but the 0566 feels every bit as much of a tank in a lighter, more pocketable package. I'm a one knife kind of guy (having two will give me anxiety on which to choose that day, it's ridiculous) so I think I'm going to sell the 0350.
