My First Re-Handle!

I have an affection for the 112 weather old or new, and can only dream of a stag 112! Like the others said well done that just looks so sweet!

My friend,

I would put a big piece of tape on the inside of the blade well , to cover the holes, before you work on spring pin. Then a tiny bit of glue will form like a 'peened' head to hold on to liner. Similar to the heat mashed plastic pins in the black sawcut 300 scales. I would also lightly 'sawcut' the back of the stag to give the glue grip. BUT, don't go to the edge of the stag, just hide them in the center. More glue grip there also. Same with liner but never go to the edge with these "scratches". This is important with bone and smooth stabilized woods. Also always protect the bolsters with blue tape till the last little careful sanding.....clean metal glue surfaces with rubbing alcohol to remove oil.

Mark, that is absolutely beautiful! Stag is not forgiving but you nailed it. Fit and finish is awesome.

That is just great, I have played some with elk and deer antler but that stag is fantastic. very nice.

Turned out nice! Glad you peened that rocker rivet. I didn't 1 time, and re-handled the same knife twice.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Craig….thanks for the pointers. I know it can be done better and your tips make a lot of sense.

I've got the 112 on my desk and keep looking at it and can't believe I did that!

Thinking of trying either a 110 or a 303 next since I already have the stag that fits those.

GREAT JOB:thumbup:I have a two dot 112 I got when I first got in the trade when I retire I'm going to put stag scales on her.

After seeing your stag handled 112, the more I think about it, the more I am realizing that I am going to have to get some stag slabs and put them on something! :)

Congratulations, the operation was a success and the patient is better than ever Doctor Stump.

Buffing wheel: I tried a small one, with rouge, mounted into my drill motor without any success. I need a proper buffing wheel setup. I would love to see yours. Great results. I use polishing tape then polishing compound on a rag with elbow grease... I get improvement but nothing like your mirrored end product.

Great work, Stumps! Thanks for sharing the pics, as it is nice to see an artisan at work.
