A few moments ago, I placed an order for a Gelbu Special 21" khukuri. I can't begin to describe how eager I am for it to arrive! Just figured I'd share my enthusiasm a bit, since I fear this will end up being only the first of many knives I order from HI. Fortunately, I know to come here with my questions!

Welcome Latro!! :D
Always good to meet new people!

I am sure you will love your GS. I got to play with one at the Convention and I thought it was neat!

Did you get a Wood or Horn handle? Or did you order the knife and see which kind picked you as its home?

Nice to meet you, and I will see you around.

This is probably the roughest part of owning Khuks...which is the favorite ?
I went into spasms over my Malla, then the GS, which is very close in size, but better in handling. Then I got the WWII...here we go again :D Terry Sisco should design a "golf bag" sheath, with wheels, and slots for about 6-8 "favorites". And a trailer hitch for another one, for those who are really confoosed

This is a fun house, this Cantina of ours. Join in and enjoy.

Welcome Latro. You're right, that GS is only the first of many. It's ok though, you're gonna have lots of fun with all of them.

Wal, that line about the golf club styled scabbard is funny. Terry, are you listening?

Welcome to the Cantina, Lat. I just sent you an email with a little bad news. I'm sold out of the 21 incher but have the 18 inch ready to go if you are willing to scale down a little. The recent events in NYC have slowed down international shipments but I'm expecting to get some more 21 inchers in a couple of weeks (best guess).

I didn't say this in the email but I'll say it here. I'll discount the 18 incher $25 if you are willing to take the substitution of the smaller version.

Very sorry for inconvenience. Blame the terrorists!!!!!

I think you're going to be impressed. There's something about handmade items that mass produced things just don't have. Sorta like a piece of handmade furniture compared to something from IKEA. Not that the mass produced stuff is bad, it just seems sterile and lifeless in comparison.

Sorry for the delay in my reply, I had a dear friend over all day and was away from my computer. The 18" GS would be a wonderful substitute, and your offer of the discount is incredibly generous. I think I am going to enjoy doing business with your outfit!

Nice to have another HIKV knut join the Cantina crowd. Now you'll have to participate in the UBDOTD race!;) :D

Good luck and enjoy yourself!

Latro, Welcome to the Cantina! I just got my GS at the convention and I love it! It has a very strong blade and is very easy to handle. I'm betting it is on of those sleeper khuks that is a jack of all trades, does everything well kind of thing!

A Golf bag sized sheath! I think this may work! Of course you'll have to have a caddy to haul it around.
T-Bone

T-Bone"

The comic strip character "HULK" comes to mind here.:D

Dave, I'm sure you can "try some out of course", but just don't try them out on the course! Could you imagine the stampede of knicker-clad golfers? It would, however, add some exitement to the back nine! :D ;) You could probably do it and the eye witnesses would swear it was Jim! ( you know, "Round up the usual suspect! LOL!:D )

Latro: Welcome to the cantina! You'll find it a comfortable place. I've not been here too terribly long, but the depth of knowledge these boys have is quite remarkable. From metallurgy, leathercare, woodfinishing, sharpening, and troubleshooting, this forum makes it intoxicatingly easy to really jump into Khukuris. And, by all means, don't suffer in silence with a question, I'm certain someone around here can steer you in the right direction.

And of course,Uncle is great to do business with. He's a stand up guy even when he's sitting down!

congrats on the 18" GS I'm sure it'll be great. Let us know how it performs and your impression of it. This allows those of us who haven't got one YET to have the vicarious experience!
