So I make my first sheath using what materials I could get at my local Tandy leather store.

0.93 kydex
1/4 eyelets
1/4 eyelet setter.
Chicago Screws.

Already had the toaster oven and heat gun

Made a press from scrap wood i got for free, and bought foam at Cabela's.

used a dremel cutting wheel to shape it. Hand drill to drill the eyelet holes.

The piggyback sheath is made from 0.60 kydex

I made the mistake of setting the first eyelets to far out, so set some closer to the blade. that the reason for the offset eylets.

So what i learned making my first sheath?

Don't buy Eyelets for Kydex from a leather store. they are almost to short. especially with 2 sheets of .93 kydex.
I am gonna try .93 and .60 on my next sheath.

Also plan to make a order from a proper supply company.

thanks for looking.

It's a bit scruffy but ho hum, good effort. If it's any consolation I can tell you that I was looking at a Kydex sheath the other day by a well known maker and it was rubbish. It had 50% of the width of the blade either side doing little useful. I know there needs to be some welt margin for the fixings but that was ridiculous. Quite why someone would want a sheath that's 100% wider than their knife is a mystery to me. Given that one was a professional effort yours is doing just fine.

Nice, Looks a heck of a lot better than my first! Is there a purpose for the staggered rivets? What is the big knife? Try reducing the size of the welt section a bit (the space on the sheath between the edge of the blade and the edge of the kydex).

Maybe not perfect, but it looks good and functional! You can buy rivets for the thickness of kydex you use. Knifekits sells each size in different colored packs of 100.

Big knife is a Schrade extreme survival model. I'll snap pics when my battery is charged again.
Small is a Kabar johnson piggyback.

Eyelets are offset because I drilled some holes closer to the blade.

Now I need a tuitional on how to make the slots for a leg strap.

Thanks for the comments.

Don't laugh at you?

Dude, you should be PROUD of that sheath! You did a great job!

That's actually one of the few Kydex sheaths that I like! The off-set rivets give is some character... individuality...
While the other Kydex sheaths may be a bit more sleek, they all almost look alike. This is one I'd be proud to wear!

Thanks!

Great first effort!! You made rhe sheath to do what you wanted it to and learned a lot in the process. First priority is function, then you work on form. Each sheath when you start out will be a learning process of what to do and what tools and equipment will get you closer to your idea of what makes a good sheath. Congratulations!!

If you can do anything like that on your own and it works, you have won. Take the lessons learned and keep at it. There are many that won't even try. Congratulations!

So was checking out Knifekits.com and they want crazy shipping prices to Canada. One bag of 1/4 8.8 eyelets they want 28 to ship.

Anyone know of a cheaper place?

looks great id let you make me one anyday haha post pics when you add the leg strap plz im curious as to how it will turn out
