It was an impulse buy. I would have preferred a yellow cv model, but I stopped by the knife case at the hardware store and just couldn't leave without buying something. Seems like a very utilitarian design. I'm eager to put it to work and see how it performs.

If you don't mind how much did you pay for it.

If you do a search for them you should get a good idea what they go for. They are very inexpensive.

Not trying to be a butt , but I was always told its rude to ask how much someone payed for something.

The Sodbuster has quite a following here. I don't think you will be disappointed. Now that you have a black one, you can order a yellow one to go with it :D

I don't mind, Zach, but to keep within forum guidelines I'll refrain from saying. Send me an email or pm if you want to know more.

I saw a picture of a Queen sodbuster that I may try to get later on.

It was a good impulse, the sodbuster is a wonderful design for all around use. Very old history and rugged construction.

You got a good knife there!

Been thinking of buying a Queen Country Cousin, which is a tad smaller, with a D2 blade. Anyone know if it's a pain to get the etch off of the blade?

I bought a Case Sodbuster Jr. for my son, identical to the OP's, but ours has developed a little side play. I also have a large Boker given to me by a member here; it's one of the better edge-holding knives I've got.

They're good users to have around, when a tough little user is needed.

It depends on the depth of the etch. I've only done it twice; I just match up the emery cloth grit as closely as I can to the blade grind in appearance, and rub it off - only on users though. I work down the side with the etch, then work the back pile side the same way. (Motion to match the grind direction - usually up/down, on a flat surface.) On my users, especially carbon steel knives, the patina eventually makes any blade embellishment almost invisible anyway.

thx - cpr

I'm not usually big on blade etchings, but for some reason I like the ones on the Case Sodbusters

Same here; like the Case soddie etching, Bulldog etchings and German Eye, that's it don't like any others.

Well, I have my first field report of the sodbuster. The thin, hollow ground blade made short work of peeling an apple.

Actually, it performed better than my Case Copperlock or Trapper in this capacity. I like the sobbuster. It feels good in the hand and is a great little slicer.

Appreciate everyone's comments.

Yup, that about sums it up.

I used to not care for Sodbusters because I thought they were, well, to be honest - just plain ugly.;):D Then I finally tried one out and realized that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. If you're looking for an honest, hard working knife at a reasonable price point then the humble Sodbuster is purty darn hard to beat.

Funny you mention this because I picked one up on impulse this weekend from a hardware store. Mine had some blade play and a terrible edge but managed to correct both. Now I am quite pleased with it, especially with the price.
Was thinking of getting a CV version but suspect I will make my own version using O1.
Love the pattern though.

Hope you enjoy yours.

I just joined the Sodbuster Jr. "impulse purchase" club while at Lowe's this AM. Great little knife for under $20.

Well as usual, a forum caused me to spend more money. :D

I just ordered a pair of yellow/CV Sodbuster Jr's. I've wanted one for a few years, so I finally scratched the itch.

You got off easy. (This time.) :p:thumbup:
