I've always liked good old slippies, however now and then I get caught up in the shmactical world of knives. I've currently bettn getting good enjoyment out of the Spyderco "Slip-its". Awesome one handed openers with no lock.

Today, I got home from a trip and had this Case Sodbuster Jr. waiting for me. It was a lightly used one that I got off a friend in a trade. It's black with an SS blade and as far as I can tell by the markings it is a 2008 model.

I'm very drawn to this knife. I polished up the brass tonight, sharpened it up and now it will shave. This thing has a beautiful thin hollow ground blade. I can see how these simple little "soddies" are addicting.

Lastly, are the handles on everyone else's soddies a bit slick? Do you rough them up at all or what? Mine is kinda slick and I don't like it.........yet at the same time I do. Oh heck.......I don't know.

Great knife. Enjoy the pics....

Congrats, I got a "yeller" Sodbuster Jr a month or so ago. It's amazing how it's become one of my favourite knives, when it's one of the cheapest, and also (arguably) one of the ugliest. The yellow must be growing on me; I was initially bummed that Case didn't offer CV Sodbuster Jrs in other colours.

Possibly my favourite sheeple knife, no one's going to be scared by a yellow handle... actually, maybe they might be put off by the colour.:barf::D

David, I have recently started "re-doing" Soddies...here's where I'm at so far...

I'm leaving the Yeller Ones alone tho...

Nice pics. I grab my yellow CV one as often as my hundred dollar GEC Barlow. Why? Because it's just a good knife. I've still got to get the SS one, as well as a couple other brand names that I'm after, but the CASE is my fav. Oh, and can it take an edge!

My case yellow sodbuster JR. Is the knife in my collection that tells me I'm a fool.

That CV blade with it's thin hollow grind is a heck of a slicer, holds its edge great. Feels great in hand, I pinch mine open, which makes it pretty easy to open.

Everytime I get a new knife, often with a new lock style, new wonder steel. I hear that sodbuster faintly through the door of my knife drawer saying "I can cut better than them"

I think that mirror polished blade helps it zip through things better.

One time at work, my boss needed about an inch of a 2x4 wall stud removed to make room for a switch box and said "hey you got one of your knives?" I was about to berate him for asking me to use one of my nice knives for such a big task. Then I thought, hell, it's just this cheap sodbuster, if it breaks I'll replace it. I pushed that knife HARD. Putting a lot of force behind the cuts. I was impressed that it suffered no damage and held its edge like I never even used it.

I think if I am ever finished being a knifenut. If I quit reading forums and changing edc's. If I quit chasing the latest, greatest, wonder knife that will make me happy. I will be found with a sodbuster in my pocket.

I'm often found chasing the latest whiz-bang cool new toys in the knife world too. Honestly tho my CV Soddie ( my stainless for that matter) and carbon Opinel #7 can handle anything I throw at them. Sometimes I'll hold a 710 or CQC7 or some such knife in one hand and a simple cv Sodbuster in the other and laugh and shake my head and think 'my wife's right about me' always buying stuff I don't need. But in the end hobbies are about fun not being sensible. :D

I have not experienced Case's CV blades. I can see I'm going to have to go grab a yellow sod buster in CV now. :)

Thanks for the compliments!

The Sodbuster seems to be quite an amazing little knife. Very simple in design, and very reasonably priced. It has quite a following, although I have to be honest, I've never owned one

RayBan... Very nice work. I especially like the one in top picture. What kind of wood is that?

I love them! I've only got one, a Case but love it. It is such a good, inexpensive knife to use and through in the drawer.

I have the black stainless model Jr, also. It's obviously not an expensive knife, but it seems to be the one that ends up in my pocket most often. I still haven't figured out exactly why.

The only thing that I don't like about it is that the two corner edges of the spine feel almost sharp enough to cut. I wish I had a quick and easy way to polish that down a bit. A dremel would probably solve that pretty quickly, but I don't have one.

A small gripe for an otherwise excellent little knife that I don't have to "worry" about.

I'd love to have a yeller one, too, so I could try out the Case CV steel.

That be Bocote....a S. American hardwood.
That sharp corner seats against the back spring....I don't like it either...I may try rounding it off a little to see if it still seats good.

. . . but id dance naked on my roof for a yella one.

Nooooooo!! We'll send you one not too!!

:D

Back when Case had one of their layoffs, I took my son to a local ACE and bought him one like the OP's. I hadn't held one before then, but I love the feel of it.

I also have a large Boker Soddie (that the dog of a generous forum member decided I could have ;)) and it's one heck of a good utility knife. It gets a lot of good use at harvest time.

thx - cpr

It is interesting how such a simple inexpensive knife can have such a following. A while back I got a black SS model. I just ordered a yellow CV model just 10 minutes ago. Can't wait to get it. Next is a Sr. model or two.

The Case Sodbuster Jr. is a classic. IMHO, it's the most knife for the money on the market, and probably has been for some time. It's an understated, simple design that has a lot going for it- comfortable handle, good size, tough as nails, easy to open and close, decent steel, and nice looks. I like 'em all- stainless or carbon, black or yella. The one I'm really looking forward to is the blue delrin "American Workman" version coming out in a couple months.

I might like the Sodbuster even more if Case dropped the point a hair more- giving it a more useful tip for the way I use my knives. But it's hard to argue with near perfection- the design is such a classic it would be a shame to change it.

To be honest, I've yet to pick up a delrin-handled Case that I didn't like. They're good, solid knives. I don't have any of the jigged delrin models yet- I'm sure I'll get around to them eventually.

Nice.My yellow Soddbuster Jr. in cv is my go to lemon and lime wedge cutter.

I bought the yellow Queen Country Cousin this summer.
Once I figured out how to sharpen the D2 steel it has been getting a lot of pocket time.
Thinking about getting a black one next.
