My First Spyderco (Gunting)

Mr Blonde,

Actually, the Gunting doesn't really require a lot of training at all, just an understanding of some of the features. After that you can find all sorts of neat things to do with it.

Bram understands the need for defensive tactics to be simple in order to work under stress, and has designed that into the knife as well as the program of instruction.

I love the ramp. I actually wish I had a ramp on some of my fixed blades. It is a great way to control your opponent without cutting.

I don't know if you have tried one out, but they really do fit into real world self defence quite well.

Reading a quote from Bill Bagwell: "A seven inch knife will get you killed in a knife fight." That may be true, but knife vs. knife is not necessarily the way it will go down. A 14" Bowie would be a great choice if going against another blade. However, it's just as likely you'll be dealing with larger unarmed assailants, multiple assailants, impact weapons, improvised weapons or firearms.

I think the Gunting fits in better and is more versatile under most of these other situations. A 2 7/8" blade can get the job done.

Just my $0.02

Hey Steve 22595. The Bagwell bowies I handled where way bigger than 14 inches , more like 17 - 19 3/4. But who cares I see your point, even if Bagwell never will.

Dudes ~ I know for a fact that there are many spydernuts over here who are anxiously waiting for their Gunting to arrive..

The GUNTING is getting it workout as a utlity knife everyday carry over in France..Nemo has been kind enough to put the GUNTING through real time chores..cutting, banging,fixing....
and it works..and cleans up really well...
Steve has been using the DRONE ( oh god shades of Fred Perrin) in just about every LEO application that he can dream up..( nobody wants to get near him anymore!)
Fred has been slam n jamming it since he got it..teaching, banging and demoing it...
even showing the Military...( hmm same response..nobody wants to get near Fred and the drone either...)
Jody is out to prove that a "lady" can certainly defend herself with her little "Toad sticker" with its funny horns..
( watch out guys..shes not known as the "Warrior Woman" for nothing!)
yes.. I know there are other GUNTAHOLICS out there,,and I want to thank all of you for helping the GUNTING to have a successful birth and entry into the knife world...

it can only get better...

thanks again!

I'm not your typical female. I love knives.

I have lots of them, but I always have preferred carrying Spyderco and Benchmade knives. I also have a passion for any Randall made knife.......BUT THE GUNTING IS THE COOLEST KNIFE I OWN!!! I carry it everywhere that I go. It has taken the place of the Benchmade that I used to carry. Now the poor Benchmade is in my purse and the others are at home in my
"goody box" of knives. I still carry a little cricket in my bra as a secondary knife. As far as I'm concerned, the GUNTING is the coolest thing since slice bread.

I too am now the proud owner of a GUNTING.

I have already cut a lager hole in my Levi's improperly opening the knife. No kinetic openings on your upper thigh!

This knife is too cool! I can already see I will need a trainer. You will too if you want to use this knife for more than a fancy string cutter.

This knife is not inconspicuous in your pocket. I half expect the Crocodile Hunter to jump out and wrestle it out of my pocket.
It looks like a crocodile poking it's head out the pocket of my jeans.

I have a belt holster on order. The knife might carry better in pants with slash cut pockets?

I do have one concern. The tip, on my GUNTING at least, is ground quite thin. I own/have owned ten or so SPYDERCOS. I have broken the tip on more than one. I have reprofiled the tip on a couple of DELICAS for friends after they broke the tips on their knives. Have there been any tip breakages reported on the GUNTINGS yet? Has the tip strength been tested?

Not that I think it would be requirde to make the knife any more effective but it looks like the hole top clip of the blade can safely be sharpened. Warranty concerns aside, is this a good idea? Has any one done this?

This is a great knife and the lock is the best I have seen yet! Thanks to everyone involved in bringing this product to market!

KT,

Hope you didn't cut your leg.

Slash pockets do a great job of keeping the ramp under wraps, but the holster is still my favorite way to carry the G.
IWB clip carry works pretty well too.

I suppose you could sharpen the top edge, but I don't think it would provide any significant advantage on this particular knife.

As far as tip strength, I haven't seen any problems. Maybe Sal has an answer.

Perfect for slicing bagels.

The drone is a wicked cream cheese spreader.
