Mr Blonde,
Actually, the Gunting doesn't really require a lot of training at all, just an understanding of some of the features. After that you can find all sorts of neat things to do with it.
Bram understands the need for defensive tactics to be simple in order to work under stress, and has designed that into the knife as well as the program of instruction.
I love the ramp. I actually wish I had a ramp on some of my fixed blades. It is a great way to control your opponent without cutting.
I don't know if you have tried one out, but they really do fit into real world self defence quite well.
Reading a quote from Bill Bagwell: "A seven inch knife will get you killed in a knife fight." That may be true, but knife vs. knife is not necessarily the way it will go down. A 14" Bowie would be a great choice if going against another blade. However, it's just as likely you'll be dealing with larger unarmed assailants, multiple assailants, impact weapons, improvised weapons or firearms.
I think the Gunting fits in better and is more versatile under most of these other situations. A 2 7/8" blade can get the job done.
Just my $0.02
