I have been lurking here for the last few weeks. Reading and looking at pics can only last for a lil while.
I own and operate a landscape design and maintenance company. I use knives everyday at work and at home as a wood carver hobbyist. I ordered a Manix 2 with G10 scales and CPM S30V steel. This is my first Spyderco.
As far as my initial impression of this knife goes. I like the size of it and the blade shape. The G10 scales have a good shape and texture. Out of the box the knife is sharp and has what appears to be a very precisely ground edge, which will make future sharpening a breeze.
So far I have only used the knife to open a couple of cardboard boxes and roll a little bit of wood off a carving project.
I am planning on using this knife at work and will post reviews of its use and wear.

Nice knife, I've been trying to decide what Spyderco is going to be my first. How do like the locking mechanism on your knife.

I have two Manix 2's they are great knives. A little wide for front pocket carry for me so I normally carry in the back pocket or belt sheath. A very solid EDC.

I love mine, and like the locking mech also it seems very stout. I am carrying the XL right now but am thinking I need to add a combo edged Manix to my collection. I am wondering if the Military is just as tough as the Manix???

IABIGBUCKGUY I like the locking Mechanism oK. It locks up tight.
SChief454 It is a fairly wide knife , but So far it has not been a problem for right front pocket carry for me.

A friend of mine gave me a Manix 2 with the 154CM blade. The locking mechanism took me a bit to get used to, as I am accustomed to frame locks on Kershaws. However, once I got used to the "Spydie Hole" and the ball bearing lock, I was majorly impressed with the design...and still am. Great knife.

Congrats on a great knife.
Still one of my favorite Spyderco designs.
It's a beefy folder but it wasn't too beefy to be carried for me.
Really the locking mechanism makes it all the more beefy to me. It's just a very strong lock.
It's pretty easy to operate over all.
It's a good knife and would make a fine first Spyderco, and makes a heck of a user. I had a very heavily used one not too long ago. I still miss it.

I just picked up the exact same knife, it will be replacing my current EDC, a ZT 0301 (you think the Manix is wide and beefy?? lol) it feels way better in the pocket than the ZT and at 1/2 the price I feel more comfortable carrying this one, in case of loss.

I have also found that a pull on the lock and a flick opens the knife every bit as easy as my Hinderers, and even better than the CRK's I've owned in the past, looking forward to giving this the full EDC treatment and seeing how she'll stand up!!

Figured I'd chime in.
Manix2 was my first Sypderco too. Lock cage will tear up your thumb if you don't have any callous there.
Mine came with the 154CM, which meant nothing to me for the first 6 months. I did however drop the knife on accident from about 6 feet from the top of a produce shelf onto some ceramic tile. Lost a bit of tip but the ceramic lost a good chunk of corner where the knife had landed. The rest of the knife was perfect even after bouncing around for a few seconds. Shows the QC within Spyderco proves a knife for some abuse.
Great choice. It should prove to be a great tool for many years! And S30v at that price is a steal IMO.

It has been almost one month using the Manix2. It has worked well at work. I have used it to cut small branches, palm fronds and cut patches of sod. It is easy to retrieve from pocket with gloves on or not. The lock works well and releases easy with or without gloves. It is a good solid knife. I touch up the blade using a small soft Arkansas stone. In the pic is a small carving I did. It started as a piece of oak fire wood it had some interesting spalting and I am not sure what I ended up with. Any way the blade retained a sharp edge through a few hours of carving with only occasional touch ups.

Congrats on the purchase! Great knife you've got there. I owned both the Manix 2 and the Manix 2 Lightweight and it was definitely one of my favorite Spyderco models. It is a good size knife, but it sure doesn't feel like a big knife when you carry it! Might look into picking up that same one you have there sometime this year.

Loved the original Manix 80mm and 95mm.Love the Manix 2 and The Manix 2 XL.Love all the Manix 2 sprints and can't wait for the XL sprint.Great knife for me and a Prefect example of why I love Spydercos.

The Manix 2 in translucent blue was my first Spyderco. It got me addicted. The lock is absolutely wonderful, although it could be stiff at times, especially compared to the Benchmade Axis lock

Don W. - Nice knife. The Manix 2 is also my first Spyderco. It has the black blade with 154CM steel. Can't wait for it to get here.
