I finally jumped on the bandwagon this week, and the Sage 1 has enlightened me. Up until now I had never understood the fascination with Spydercos. Their blade shapes seemed like oddities to me, some bordering on ugly. I thought the hole in the blade was nothing more than a marketing trademark, and inferior to a thumb stud.

Then, I found this forum, and began to read the glowing reviews for the Sage 1, and other Spyderco knives. After going back and forth about Benchmade and Spyderco, researching and obsessing, I made the only logical choice.....and bought one of each.:D

The Benchmade 14210 should be here early next week, but the Sage 1 hasn't left my pocket since last Thursday.

Everything about the Sage screams quality. It's light, attractive, has decent grip to it, perfect ergonomics, I can't say enough about it. The hole has become a favorite, as well, and I now understand the functionallity of the design features that Spyderco incorporates.

congrats and welcome to Spyderco! I love the texturing on the CF of the Sage1, and I carry a Sage2 everyday as well... I love my Spidies!! :D

I've had a Spyderco in my EDC rotation for years. I have always been a fan of Spyderco knives! I like your thinking...can't decide...buy both!:D

The Sage 1 was my first Spyderco, also. It's a great knife, everything just seems to work well with it. Welcome to the club

I traded my Sage 1 for a Para 2 and I REGRET IT! I sold the Para 2 and bought an original Digicam Para. Now I am hunting for another Sage 1. These (to me) are the nicest of the 3 thus far. The beautiful CF, open construction and perfect F&F make for a great knife.

Mine just arrived today. Took the local shop about a month to get it in, but I have it now...

It is superb. :thumbup::cool::thumbup:

Hi BeerGuy,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Thanx for the trust and support. We hope you enjoy the model.

The whole Sage series is excellent. I got a Sage 1 as a extra when I traded a Sebenza for a Sage 2. The Sage 2 was what I was after, but somehow that Sage 1 kept finding its way into my pocket. I ended up trading it so I would use just the Sage 2, and I am happy with that, but man that Sage 1 was a nice knife. Only liner lock I really felt confident in.

Haha! U dare make this satement when there's so many people out there hunting for a para 2?! Lol. Just a question, is the hole of the sage completely smooth, or is there there little laser cutting bumb on it?

They're completely smooth.

Don't know how the maker it Taichung cuts their blades, but the results are excellent. Inside of the Spyderhole is perfectly smooth, yet the edge is extremely crisp. No signs of the coppery color "burn" marks inside the Spyderhole, in the jimping, or on the less finished areas of the tang that I associate with laser cut blades.

Is the maker of the sage 1 the same as the GB's maker?

My Sage 1 is the best knife I've ever owned, or used.:D:thumbup:

Can't swear to it, but AFAIK the same maker does all the current folders made in Taiwan. Chokwe, PPT, Bradley, Zulu, and the Sage series. If the most recent ones have Taichung on them, that would make it a certainty.

So that's what that is? I see that on all my millis. I always thought it was light staining or something.

Welcome, BeerGuy. Just be aware that once you've been bitten by the spyder, it can become a very expensive hobby. :-)
