well, not quite...it's not exactly my first spyderco - the sharpmaker is. it's amazing how such a simple product can work so well! along with a strop, i can easily make my knives shaving sharp.
...well, back on topic - the military black blade. i'm used to hard-use, survival knives such as beckers & esee knives so the bar has been set pretty high. almost all of my knives consist of those two makers only so that shows how careful i am. i leave the flavor-of-the-month knives to others. when it was time to branch out to folders my research concluded that the spyderco military fit the bill as a no nonsense, pure function over form, design. it was an easy decision
thank you spyderco for coming out with the military.
...pics. my pet rose hair tarantula was nice enough to model for me:
next to my edc esee-4. the military will stay in my pocket while the esee-4 stays in my laptop bag along with my basic survival stuff:
her carapace has that nice pink hue to it since she just shed a couple of months ago. too bad i'm not a good photographer to capture it well:
uh, oh...the fangs are in full display! after i flipped the military open she seemingly took the hint and raised a couple of her front legs in a defensive posture:
the pics don't show it but her 1/2" long fangs are clearly visible
in summary:
- no blade wiggle in both folded and open positions.
- the blade is perfectly centered when closed.
- i like the g10's grip alot. not sure what the big deal with micarta is (with regards to fixed blade knives). g10 is not porous hence it doesn't absorb stinky sweat and oil, unlike micarta.
- cons? only a minor one - i wish the the screws/other hardware were anodized black. i took off the clip for maximum concealability since i work in a suit & tie kinda office so different positions were a non-issue.
in summary, this might be my one and only spyderco...unless the titanium military eventually comes in an all-black finish...hint, hint
