My first Spyderco?

Endura, Para 2, Manix 2 are all very good suggestions. I would throw the Stretch in there as well.
 
I'll sell you a nib grip pro. Vintage and very grippy hints the name and under 3.5 one blade length.
 
All good suggestions, but when I hear 'black and grippy' I think Manix 2 and Manix XL.
One the other hand, you might as well get a Para 2, 'cos your going to sooner or later anyway :)
 
My first Spyderco was a Dragonfly2, followed up with a Cat. I got a Grasshopper for Fathers Day, and I have a PM2 on order. Now, without having the PM2 yet, the Cat sees the most EDC use. Indeed, even after the PM2 arrives, I can see it being more of a weekender/hard use knife as its a little big to rock everyday in the urban jungle. The Cat is less intimidating to the sheep than a 3.5" camo-scaled PM2. I strongly recommend the Cat for EDC use.
 
Now that I have the PM2 out of the way and into the fold, the next Spyderco on my list is a Sage 1. It's like a seriously upgraded Cat.
