Well today is my birthday and a couple of my friends chiped into the money bin and bought me my first spyderco knife. Its a D4! All that I can say is WOW! The fit and finish is great and there is NOOOOOOOOOOOO bladeplay! I have definably become a spyderco fan. I have large hands and the D4 for its size fits very well! I am still awaiting my arrival of my Grip 551 model that I orderd and then I have two good edc's for a couple of years.

Good! But I don't THINK you are going to be content with just a couple of Spyders for the next couple of years....It soon escalates!

Those D4's are nice, that for sure. I ended up getting an S30V Native for almost $20 cheaper than I could find a D4. But I'm happy with it! As for the "bug fever," I don't know, personally 1 or 2 folders is all I need; I opt for variety myself.

Happy birthday mate.
You know, the real quality of those knives is in the use.
They cut great, hold an edge and are very easy to get very sharp again.
Enjoy your Delica.

Thanks for the birthday wishes.

The delica performs extremely well! I used it to cut some meat today. (Have 12kg of meat to go for the bbq) and it was impressive to say the least. I am not a big fan of serrations, but it is still extremely sharp and its growing on me! Had some time for pics today!

Happy B-day. I got my first spyderco (a delica also) back in 89-90 and was blown away...this was my first exsposure to a clip-it type of knife that we now are spoiled with from multiple manufactures....I broke the first 1/2 inch of the blade off that knife, but I still have it....and after years of abuse the serations are still sharp. Congrats again...

What impressed about Spyderco knives is how they preform. If it were just about looks and fit and finish, there are other brands that could beat Spyderco. I have seen perfect looking knives from other makers but none preform the way Spydercos do. They put utility ahead of everything else and people that really use their knives like that. Looks will grow on you if the knife holds up and does it's job.

I used to think Spydercos were kind of ugly, now I see the beauty of them.

I know you are in S.A. and prices are much higher there but consider a larger knife as well. I just got a Pacific Salt and I am very impressed so far. Also, the D'allera DP and Centofante 4 are great knives. I much prefer the Cent 4 over the D-4 as an EDC. It is lighter, thinner and longer. It seems to pack more punch into it's size. The D-4 is a good one as well but if you decide to get another Delica sized knife, the Cent 4 is what I would buy. The Cent 3 is good as well but I actually prefer the Wharncliff Cent 4 over the Cent 3. I have found no problems with the Wharncliff blade so far.

I was considering buying a pacific salt before I got the D4 for my b-day. I like the yellow handles and would love a knife where you don't need to worry about rust. (for those trips to the dam and see with a few friends....) Anyway will look into the C4.

Quite strange. I always wanted a spyderco ever since I saw one, but never bought me one. Probably because everyone sayd itd a ugly knife, but as you said. PERFORMANCE!
