i just "finished" my first knife and would like to know about handle and sheath options. i would like to show a picture of it and get some feed back. can anyone tell me how to post a pic on here?

first upload the picture on imageshack.com or photobucket.com
Then press on the icon that has a mountain and a moon(or sun), and place the picture link(link ending with .jpg or .gif)

the srk is just for a size comparison...
but basically what i did was...
i was thinking about tool steel. i figured why not take a pry bar that was 1/4 inch thick, 1 3/4 inch wide and cut it to length and then grind it down to the shape i wanted? i was going for that a g russell stag bowie ( http://www.agrussell.com/knives/by_purpose/camping/custom_shoppe_stag_handled_hunters_bowie_.html ). anyway i wanted a camp knife that was small, tough, but could hold an edge. it's high carbon tool steel and is pretty sharp. what cani do for the handle???? i like sunrise river custom knives!!!

i've never worked with that before. is it difficult to learn or is there a thread on here how to do that or other pics of it?

Just get Resin/Hardener and Fiberglass fiber.
Then lay the fiber onto the handle and paint the mixed resin on the handle.
Or you could make some fiberglass slabs and bolt it on to the knife when it's dry.

What kind of heat treat did you use, or are you relying on the original heat treat of the prybar itself? If so can't the heat from the grinding process negatively affect any previous temering? Heat treat aside, it looks great for an early attempt!

what do you think of red oak slabs with a spar varnish bolted on? i have access to some nice pieces of red oak.

i was very careful not to let the blade get too hot when i was working on the knife. i did not wear gloves, and when i felt it getting warm i made sure to cool it down before continuing. the majority of the grinding was early on but most of the shape came by hand filing!
thank you!

i like the shape. cord wrap would be the easiest.

also, try a scotch brite wheel attached to a drill to polish it up a bit.

Thanks fellas what i've done since the last post is sand and blu the blade with cold gun bluing. i'll see if i can post a pic
