my first 'stab' at knife making

Nice blade shape. I would have suggested to grind some sexy curves onto the handle section and then put some wood scales on (but I am biased toward timber)... The holes are already there for pins, and it will make the knife more comfortable to use. Great work though.. I must learn about bluing some day.

i got the red oak hadle slabs on with 2 part 3000lbs epoxy and 1/4" round steel pins through the tang (covered with oak dowels (sp?) ) stained it with red oak stain and sued a little 'special sauce' ( super glue) to fill the cracks. the knife is a great chopper, slicer, and stabber. it will make a great camp knife.

Wow.....
Looks Professional!

Now it's time to make a sheath, and etch your initials into the blade.

i have a psuedo (sp?) sheath... however i am not a talented leather-smith (for lack of a better word). what are my options for a custom sheath? i think it would fit into a recon scout custom leather sheath if i could find one...
any ideas?

If your really good in wood crafting, use the same wood you used to make the handle, and carve the shape of the blade onto two symmetrical pieces of wood, then bolt them together.

taken critique for what it is worth and cut the stitching and riveted the sheath and cut about 1/4" off edge.

ok now what you have planed next always keep moving forward
BTW i liked the leather wrap pic makes me remember some of my first file knives

Alright... my smooth gloss handle was too slick for my hand when using my new knife so... i was thinking and thinking about what i could do. then i had an epiphany! - the kimber honeycomb grips on the 1911 MEU! i could do that with a drill press! so i did and here are the before and after pics. IT IS MUCH better to grip now!
befoe...

I also did a basket weave tooling on the sheath i made!

Looking good mate...its got gunner grips now (well sorta :) ) ....does it take a nice edge? It is nice and stabby :) ...

i used it to cook dinner the other night; slicing chicken and chopping onions. it does pretty well for itself. i am going out on a limb to say this but i would trust this knife over any other. i built it- i know how strong it is and how thick i left it almost all the way to the tip and down to the edge. and the pins and epoxy i used aren't going anywhere.
thanks mate!

and i believe the blade is as polished as i'll ever care to get it... now that it is... may i ask about opions about patina darkening with pickel juice?? what is the general concensus on that??
