My FIRST Stockman

Nice stockman, Fes. It looks kinda familiar.

Cool knife, FES. It's neat that your first stock knife has the pattern name etched on the main blade.

I want that anvil... I'm starting my training for the winning lift!!

Hey Jake...imagine the shipping bill$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ lol.

Fes..it just shows you doesnt it!...the photos were shocking of the knife-the scales looked like brown plastic!!...looks good mate, send it to me.

Congratulations, FES. Branching out, eh? ;)

That's really funny. :)

For a job such as this, I believe one's own ship is required, perhaps with conscription required to "staff" it. That's how the anvil got there, right?

(Jake, you have some more details to work out.)

Beast, yes. I love things like that.

Congratz to your first stockman; FES . A great pattern. And a lovely old knife!

I did some internet search on german knife forums and found something about August Müller & Söhne (August Mueller & Sons) - they were a small manufacture in Germany, Solingen. The last dates I could get about roundabout 1960 / 1970 where they made knives. If they did this after that time would be interessting. I gonna give you further information, if needed (when I have done some searching through the german forums). Please let me know :)

Congrats on getting a fine pattern. I little cleaning and tightening and it should be a winner for you. (Might already be.)

Everyone needs anvils like the ones you have!

Looks like a tough old worker, the knife that is not just the anvil!

Nice example and stamped blade is often seen on German knives. Looks like bone not stag but a very tidy specimen. You'll try a CASE Large stockman in amber Bone next if you take to this pattern. Well done on flat footing your mate and neighbour Duncan.

Hey!
C'mon guys...I expect sympathy here-if you only knew!...I think this sort of thievery deserves a public stoning, and the knife be handed over to its rightful new owner - ME!! :D

Do you guys have flat rate boxes in NZ? ;)

Louis Cyr used to one arm overhead press a 273 lb dumbbell with a 3" diameter handle.

WOW!...Thats incrediby strong...The problem with the anvil is getting a good grip to lift it..you have to hold it by the horn with one hand, and slip 2 fingers into the swage hole on tother side..this is not as easy as it sounds!!..Anyway,thanks for the comments it is a lovely knife..
ANDI...thanks for the research and its very cool that Mueller was a maker and not a retailer...Wonderful!!!... FES

Nice stockman, Fes.
And that stamped blade is killer! Hard to get cutleries to do that anymore...

Yablanowitz, I bought two Stockman almost identical to yours. One was marked "Edge" and "Solingen Germany" and had the same blades as your stockman, the other one had the clip blade, the spey and an awl. This one was marked Olsen Knife Co, and on the other side "Solingen Germany". I kept the Olsen, and gave my good friend Side Hill Gouger, the other one. I wonder how many different companies imported that style Stockman with their companies name on it? I carry mine in my vest right hand pocket. John

Nice knife, but that anvil is something else, incredible, what a great piece of history. :) I like the small one too, I remember a friend making one out of railway track on his blacksmith's course 20-odd years ago. He's deceased now, and I wish I knew what had happened to it. Congratulations on your first stockman :)
