my first three weeks with traditionals

I would also give you the same advise that T. Erdelyi gave you . Check out the Antique Shops and Flea Markets. You can get a good feel of what you like on the cheap and there are some great old ones still out there.

Welcome to the porch have fun and just remember you don't have to have one just because someone else does.

It took me awhile to figure this one out, but I can't agree more. That's perhaps the one downside to the porch, is that enthusiasm for a particular knife can be contagious. After revisiting my habits, I have slowed down significantly on new models, unless I know I'll like them more than older models I'm trying to stumble across. The worst thing is when you buy a new knife that you like, and just then an older model that you like more pops up, and you can't afford it.

Welcome to the porch though. You'll learn a lot, see beautiful knives and photos, and meet some of the nicest people on the web.

wise words -- really grateful for everyone's comments. it feels like you all look out for one another, and i greatly appreciate that!

but yeah, i'm realizing that there are some knives i like the look of but that's about it. if i'm not going to carry it and use it, pictures will suffice. sometimes pictures alone are better than owning the knife -- pics require no sharpening of maintenance!

Yep, looks about right to me. :D Very nice choices. Welcome. :)

Welcome to the porch! Lots of great advice already given here...I'll just add, don't be afraid to focus on a particular pattern if that's your thing!

Thank you brother, I'm afraid it doesn't look like that anymore. About 1/2 has been scattered to the wind. Have a bit of a course correction going on.

Whoa! That sounds like big news, Clay!
Can you elaborate on this "course correction"? Will you still carry a 303 often? Does the correction have anything to do with that awesome Case your daughter got you? Inquiring minds want to know! :D:thumbup:

Hiya Gary, yes the 303 is my main stay carry of that there is no doubt. The course correction stems from a realization that with in my collection there is a certain era that I'm drawn to so I've decided to focus on my appreciation of the Camillus built models. I know some over on the Buck side will call me a heretic but my thoughts are if it was good enough for the Buck family to put their name on it,well...

As for that great Case, it sees the pocket every weekend!

That's all the earth shattering news I have for the day!

Sorry to the OP for the hijack...now back to our regular scheduled programming.
