this cold steel baby (CS TFT80) arrived today! So i ran out, went to a small local nature reserve, and had to test it on sum tree!

yeah! It took me a couple of tries to get a first succes :D

the new lil axe also went into the tree :)

practice makes perfect, alot of practice!

i not only got the thrower from the post today but also my Fällkniven F1!! But i didnt dare throw that one, not that it can't take it, but i'd hate to see it damaged on sum rock or sumthing.

threw it into sum mushroom :D

axe and knife again, in another tree

actually, throwing is alot more difficult than i first tawt, the point must just be aimed directly at the tree, and it is allways spinning, unless u stand real close. And i wud also presume it is way more easy to hit a door or sumthing else with a flat surface instead of a rough tree bark.
I actually had more succes with the axe.
But i see what u guys like about throwing so much, the sound the knife makes when it hits with a succes is very satisfying!!
in fact, i think ima buy more throwers!

welcome to the club! oh, just one thing, please spare a tree and build some target that you could use instead.

i think the trees are more than strong enough to handle it, but i am also thinking for looking around to find a dead tree next time.

even if its just for the nature reserve caretakers, to not bug me over it, shud they spot me :D

also, are you supposed to use your whole arm when throwing, or just the wrist? Or is that just a matter of throwing distance?

Use your whole arm and body, do not flick your wrist until you get your technique down. Make yourself a target. The tree can handle it but you will may not be able to handle the cost of replacing the tree should you get caught. They will make you pay for replacing it, especially in a reserve. Look in the Axe, Tomahawk, & Hatchet Forum, there is currently a very good thread on target making. The more you damage live trees in a reserve the worse you make us look. If you own a tree, it is yours to damage. All things in a reserve belong to the public and are not yours to tear up.

damn and i barely scratched the tree

literally!

the knife and axe never gotten deeper than the bark, and if the bark is the skin, that means i just scratched it!

no tree is gonna die from that

maybe i shud have brought sumkinda tree desinfectant or something to make sure, if that even exists

Bark damage is what kills trees. It's like skin in that it's the outer layer, but it's not like giving them just a scratch. The layer just under the bark is the whole circulatory system so an opening in the bark can allow insect infestation, infection, or stop the flow of nutrients to the tree. One knife throw won't do a thing, but repeated abuse added to natural damage can kill a tree. You also seem to pick the biggest trees in the woods which means you're damaging living organisms that are generations older than you, me, or anyone alive!

You choice of spelling and language use also makes you appear "below normal intelligence". The combination of the two really gives knife users a bad image.

I figured this would bring the tree huggers out. O save the trees save the trees. I am going to go chop down a tree today just for all of the tree huggers. :D

hahahha omg

and btw i just type like this 'coz it's faster

chatlanguage style

and the 'bad' english is coz we don't speak english here

i don't care too much about the image, knifenuts all are crazy and insane anyway :D

next time i am in a DIY shop i'll look for that tree desinfectant anyway

How do I know that damaging the bark of a tree kills it? That's how I have been able to get past homeowners association rules about not cutting down trees... :D If they're dead, you have to cut them down!

All you need to do is cut through the bark near the bottom of the tree and pile mulch up over the wound to allow fungi and insects easy access. If you do it in the spring and ring the whole tree, it'll be dead by fall!

That said, trees are still beautiful and majestic LIVING THINGS! In a park or preserve area, they are there for everyone, not just one person with one outlook on the world. Be polite.

lol

sounds like u killed more trees than i did then

and yes i like them too, and i am against deforesting and all that

but not to those extremes that i cannot enjoy them

and i am against the ridiculous overly emotional "tree hugging" hippie mentality some ppl got.

I like nature coz it is ancient, wild, cruel and unforgiving, quite contradictory to the childish disney attitudes you often encounter.

Hey ashtxsniper,

Quit being an a-hole. I could not give a rats butt about a few trees. I am giving this person fair warning about penalties associated with their behavior. Also destruction of public property, paid for by all of us, whether it be trees or graffiti, is not cool. This is particularly bad in a reserve area where people go specifically to see nature. Let some real tree huggers see some yahoo sticking knives and axes in THEIR trees and public access may no longer exist. I spend as much time hunting ,shooting, fishing and camping as you claim to. You need an attitude change boy.

if they haven't got electrified fences and armed patrol with killer dogs they arent gonna keep me out, forbidden or not >:{

I agree but I own my own propery and I am tired of people thinking they can tell me what to do with my property and trees. I agree about the public property it should be kept clean and nice as possible. No need to destroy what doesnt belong to you and if you do feel the need to damage a tree go way off the beaten path where most people wont go. At least they wont have to see the damage.

hahaha yeah thats true

around here u aren't allowed to shoot tresspassers or even throw a knife at them

u must call the cops and wait untill they arrive

u might be long dead by then of course

It doesn't take a tree-hugger to object to you damaging property that doesn't belong to you. With freedom comes responsibility. Take responsibility (and maybe a typing lesson) and build yourself a target.

build myself a target, where? in my appartment?

but I'll look around for a dead tree next time

i hate typing so i'll stick to using chatlanguage, that minimizes typing efficiently

"make yourself a target"
:)
