I haven't carried it yet, but I can tell I'm going to love doing so. I'm waiting on a slipsheath that's coming with a few other knives I've ordered:

...I couldn't help myself. I'm excitable!

Anyway, this little guy is crazy photogenic. I love the contrast of the brass liners and pins, and how the red bone has a rich, deep color.

The high polish on the bolsters is really striking and handsome:

Again, that brass really sets it off:

The richness of the red bone:

The pins are a little uneven, but I didn't notice until I was editing the pictures. Not too upset about it - and the satin finish on the blade is PERFECT!

It's really a high satin, as it even mirrors the brass liners:

And, as I've hoped, the fit and finish is incredible. No wiggle, and the blade is right down the center:

I may have gone a little crazy buying $400 in traditional knives before I've even carried the first one, but, hey, that just gives me trade fodder if I decide I do or don't like this one or that one... And there are so many models out there, and so many handle materials, and so many blade styles...!

I'm on the lookout now for a Beer Scout or a 15 in blue camel bone now. Thanks, guys, you've successfully made me feel like I felt when I was brand new to knives years ago. There goes all my spending money...

Congrats, gec never fails to impress me. These knives get dings and patina and become almost like an old friend.

"dings and patina" are hopefully going to be dodged by religious use of a slipsheath and my immediate application of Tuff Glide on all surfaces. No tarnished brass on this lil' guy :D

Nice and welcome it the fold. Just a suggestion, if you do check for blade play check at the 'base of the blade tang' vs the tip like we might on modern folders. Doing so with the tip will almost ultimately wedge and force play due to the pin construction. In any case..buy GEC and you don't have to worry about it to be honest.

Very nice Templar and Mako as well~

I'm excited to see them in person! I'll be trading or selling one of them, I'm sure, but... It'll take some deliberation. I like the swirly pattern on the blue handle, as it reminds me of the psychedelic art styles of the 60s, but the templar might end up being the keeper with the really distinct bolsters. I just wish they made a Mako in blue camel bone with the long pull - that's what I really was hoping to find.

I checked for play once and lightly - pinned construction makes me a little nervous for the very reason you just stated. I'm not so concerned now that I know it's solid - besides, it's not like it's going to suffer from lock-slip!

Beautiful first traditional! I got into traditionals this year as well, and it's been a lot of fun so far.

That's definitely a great way to start out. Very nice group you've got there. And a slip sheath will help protecting from dings and scratches, but you will definitely want one for that one-arm #15. That horn will wear a hole in your pocket quick without one and keep you from jabbing a hole in your hand also as you reach into your pocket.

Sound advice - thank you! I picked that one up because I realized I could probably open the blade by snagging that U-shaped tip on the edge of my pocket to open it. Even if that isn't the case, it looks really neat and the blade shape is very different from anything else I have.

Booooo. I understand the desire to keep them pretty and everyone collects differently. However, I always start out babying them but then just dunk them in vinegar and force a patina to be done with that after a while. What you will find is that these knives are better performers than any of the modern folders when it comes to slcing and fine detail work. and that 1095 gets SOOOO sharp so easy!!

Oh, I don't plan on babying it - I just don't like corrosion, and also don't need it banging up the screen on my phone. When I get a sheepsfoot or wharncliffe blade, it's because I plan on putting it to work :)

Toshiro,,,errrr Comeuppance...welcome to good ol' traditionals. And great pick on the #77 in red sawcut...I have one too that was the first knife I got through FS forum here, and overall 2nd GEC folder. I never really looked at the Templar much but yup those bolsters are unique. Have Fun!

That red and brass is such a beautiful combination. I really need to get on the GEC train.

I did the same thing when I got sucked in here.

Another member sent me a Northfield 23 (Flymon).

I think that by Christmas I had ordered 4 Gec Schrade, 2Nortgfield, a Tideoute, two Queen collaborations, and an S&M.

If you want a good slip to fit your very nice 77 , check out the ones that Mike has at COllector Knives. I have couple and could not be happier with them.

Well done! You don't do things by half-measure either :D

I'm sure you are going to become dragged into the vortex of Traditionals :cool: and it is a massive place with massive choices. I'm glad your 77 pleases you and the knife isn't too small, we told you....;)

Regards, Will

I'm glad you found the knife you were looking for, and MUCH MUCH more! That is a nice group of knives you've got headed your way.
The northfield barlow is just about the perfect size for me. I really want to check out more from the 77 frame. I carry my spear/ coping Barlow often. It's actually in my pocket right now.

If I recall correctly the 77 you have is a bit unique because it was not supposed to have brass liners/pins.
