My first traditional knife

Great choice. 👍🏻 i really like trappers and think they are hard to beat as an all around user. Useful in the outdoors and as a working knife, comfortable in hand and good looking to boot. Yours will only get better looking with time and it already a beauty.

Welcome, that's a great looking trapper!

I pictured you agonizing over your choice, and can totally relate. I like to torture myself that way too.

Why do we do that to ourselves?! Lol. Once I finally narrowed it down to 2 or 3 it was brutal, I feel like I could've went with either of them at that point and been happy, I'm sure I'll end up with the others eventually. The yellow or bone handle had me struggling for a minute, not to mention the mini vs medium, and stockman vs trapper choices. They're all appealing to me in various ways.

Thanks for the welcome everybody, I've liked this forum since I joined, but this sub forum seems to be especially full of great, welcoming people, and I appreciate that.
Here's 2 of mine

The Barlow was a gift from a forum member, and the h6 fixed blade ( replaced the scales with wood ) I bought from another for 18$ to my door.
The blades take a great edge , are super thin and slicey, and the knives are very lightweight and pleasant to carry.
BTW when you do get a buck 110 they're not very expensive, but they are always going on sale at Walmart, and various sporting goods so you might as well strike time is right and save a few bux . 40$ isn't a lot, but 30$-ish is even less 😉

" could I get 99 taco's for 2 cent ? "
" it's 2 taco's for 99 cents "
" that's even less " 😁
Ha! Ain't that the truth? I like saving a buck any chance I can too. Barlow is a style of knife, like stockman, that's used across different brands right? Meaning, it's not the name of a knife from a specific brand? I know I've seen them but never really paid attention to the maker before. I really like the look of that style, and some that I've seen are gorgeous.

Welcome to the Porch! That's a great choice for your first traditional. You'll find many converts here, including myself. I hope to see many more posts from you here!

Welcome, and nice choice! You are fortunate to have a local place to buy some slipjoints, it is great to look through all of them and cherry pick:)
I started the same way as you, and now most of my collection is slipjoints!

Yep, the Barlow is a popular pattern that is made by a bunch of different manufacturers. I'm sure somebody here could tell you how they originally came about. The GEC Barlows are practically a religion around here!

Welcome. I know the feeling of perusing the next best superior steel and better locking mechanism, faster opening and so on, like a rat race.
Well it DOES NOT get better in traditionals :D But people here are nicer and I can swear those knives have sole, at list the older ones.

Great choice for a starter.

Mike

Welcome to the Wide World of Traditionals. Now that you own one, you're hooked for life. If you are like most of us, you'll probably have over 20 by this time next year. I like your first choice, a Case Trapper pattern is probably the most collected brand/pattern that there is. Many old timers have huge collections of just Tested and XX era trappers. I really like the bone coloring on that one you got, well done!
