My first try at a Bowie(-ish) knife.

This is another idea I have had for quite a while now. I had a Forged Citadel blade laying about for a long time now.
But the shape was very much like what I have used in a previous knife so I thought that I do something different with it.
Not a classic Bowie in any way (if at all).
I might try something a bit more clasic next time

Anyway, the handle is made with Zebranowood, buffalo horn, pewter and some old bearing-bronze.
The bronze is a bit porous so it gets a nice rustic look to it when oxidized.

Sheath is not wetshaped for a change and it has details in the same bearing-bronze and lizardskinn.
It has a couple of magnets hidden in it, of course not in direct contact with the blade, that keeps the drawing of the knife equally smooth all the way out.

Blade is aprox 9" and overall is aprox 14"

Really like this knife. The handle is fantastic. The wood looks great and the mix of materials, textures, and colors works. The blade is also cool, different and looks strong.

The details in the sheath are just right for this knife, all the way to the piece of hide on the back. Really completes the package.

What is the guard material? Did I say I really, really like this knife? :D

Great looking Bowie.
The handle profile and material are extremely nice.
The damascus pattern and grain in the Zebrawood really look good together.

Would prefer a less pronounced blade clip if it were mine.

The sheath is perfection as always.

your attention to details is amazing. Another fantastic Axelson creation!:)

Stunning work Magnus. I absolutely love the guard, spacers and handle. The sheath is exquisite also. For me, the clip just doesn't seem to have the right flow. I was thinking if the clip was longer and more gradual it would appeal to me more.

GREAT craftsmanship!

Thanks for posting it.

This is just unreal. Lizardskin accent on the back of the sheath!?!
The list of materials and something like Zebrawood would make one think the piece would seem "busy" but your sense of line and proportion, the overall flow of design...
Simply amazing work. As a whole or up close, it's a visual feast of shapes.

I too think the clip is a little pronounced but this knife/sheath is a stunner for sure.

All of the above compliments on you design and execution. The fit and finish on the knife and sheath are superb as expected from You Magnus. I always marvel at you view of the knife as an art form and the skills you posess to make it a reality.

Your detail work is really something else - this is a terrific knife.

Magnus,
I love this knife as a complete piece of artwork. I first looked at it as a blade, then a guard and then a handle. As I looked at it again just now I saw it as one piece. It was then that I noticed that the damascus grain and the zebrawood grain are very similar if not identical. This gave the appearance of the knive as one unit rather than the sum of parts. Did you mean for those grains to appear so similar? That is exactly the kind of foresight I hope to achieve in my work one day. Excellent work, I love it!

Impressive knife & sheath. Everything in that knife screams "hey, I'm made by Magnus!". I like your style!

Kind regards,

Jos

Thank you all, your comments are very appreciated indeed!

I didn`t set out to make a typical Bowie, but I sort of had a shape in mind that I wanted to try and I thougt it kind of reminded of a Bowie...
Regarding the clip, well I had a feeling I went out on a limb with it(and the whole knife) but I wanted to see how it looked when ready. I had my doubts when working with it but it has grown more and more on me. Then again all comments about it is very valuable to me, great opportunity to learn!
So, thank you all again!

Lizardskin accent on the back of the sheath!?!
I too think the clip is a little pronounced but this knife/sheath is a stunner for sure.
Lizardskin back and front, there`s a little piece on the tip of the "keeperstrap" as well :)

All of the above compliments on you design and execution. The fit and finish on the knife and sheath are superb as expected from You Magnus. I always marvel at you view of the knife as an art form and the skills you posess to make it a reality.
You are one of my very favorite makers so your words are especially warming to me! Thank you!!

Magnus,
Did you mean for those grains to appear so similar? Mike
Yes I thougt I`d want something to match the pattern in the damascus, and Zebrano usually has a nice "predictable" pattern in it. I feel that it sometimes is an underrated wood.

When I first saw the clip the shape was unexpected and I considered how this knife would look with a more traditional blade shape. By the time I finished studying all the pics and returned to the full knife shots this unusual blade seemed right on this knife.

I came back to this thread after a long day at work and now I can't imagine this knife with a less radical and unique blade. It compliments the overall design and this is a knife I'd like to own even if others view the blade as a bit different. I think it's great and wish I could handle it to see how it feels.
