My first try at a Kiridashi

7 1/4 overall, 2 1/2 cuttin edge. 1/8 1080 tempered to 59-60 HCR. The bevel is obviously to high compared to traditional lay out. This thing is a mean slicer. My understanding now is that 1080 might be a poor choice of steel for this application.

I don't know why you would think that? 1080 is an excellent steel for slicing. Properly heat treated, it is tough and gets quite hard.
 
Well that's music to my ears since I am pretty confident working with 1080/1084. What is hardness I should shoot for. Also I make Puukkos from 1084. Would I have to heat treat Puukkos and Kiridashis different.
 
Made another in right hand for a friend. This one has a bit of finger choil and I polished the butt end for a bit of contrast. I also made a simple sheet because a knife this sharp needs one. Any input would be appreciated.
