Hi guys. As some of you know, I recently started trying to make knives. It's not easy for me, but the help I've received from several local makers has been invaluable and greatly appreciated. Without their help, I'd probably be making tent stakes. Knifemakers are some of the nicest guys on the planet.

I've been swamped at work, so I've only been able to complete two knives.

My first knife, is 440C with brown canvas micarta scales. Being my first knife, this took quite a while to finish. However, the edge geometry is absolutely fantastic. I learned a lot on this one.

My second knife, is ATS34 with green canvas micarta scales. I tapered the tang, dovetailed and peened the bolsters and did all of the work on the spine by hand. This was the first time that I mirror polished a blade, but it seemed to come out well. I had several screw ups on this knife, but it came out well overall. This blade probably out cuts any other knife I own due to the wide hollow grind and thin edge.

So far, so good. Hopefully my knives will continue to improve.

I've enclosed a pic of both knives. Sorry for the poor photo quality; I took these with my iPhone.

What do you guys think of these? Decent? Should I stick to making tent stakes?

Thanks!

What he said :D /\

Nice NICE work, very good for your first knives. I love the design of the lower one, clip points are HOT.

Thanks guys! I'm getting better, but it's a slow process. I'm amazed how knifemakers make the process look effortless.

While the wharncliff is my design, I must admit that the clip point was designed by knifemaker Travis Daniel. He was nice enough give me access to his library of patterns. I modified it a bit, and it came out decent. I'm not sure how I did it, but the grinds on either side match up perfectly.

Great results for first efforts or even after more efforts. My first were real ugly crap it took me half a dozen goes and some guidance before I was as good as those two.
SOme who know me would probably tell you I still make some ugly crap but then sometimes a good one sneaks through.

Good work. Both knives are very well done. I like the wharncliffe, the handle looks grippy.

What do your tents look like?

I really like the very gentle curve on the wharnie. Both knives have a lot of obvious care in them and are finished really well.

I thought I saw a little of Trav in the second knife, as soon as I saw the polish I was thinking you talked to him :D Good looking knives, especially for the first ones. Wish mine were so pretty ;)
