My First Two Customs

canineforge:You have a beautiflul first custom. What a great start to knife collecting. What is the BL and OAL on your Hanson?

Don made this in 2005.

A couple of things about this one that make customs so special. Don makes some tremendous hunters, but normally goes guardless with some of his awesome damascus bolsters. Being use to hunters with a guard, Don agreed to do the simple damascus guard for mine.

Plus, when deciding on the blade steel, I ask if he could 'run a river' down the blade. Thus, the damascus pattern.

Couldn't find one of these at Wal-Mart. :)

I'm surprised you have only been collecting customs a couple years. I would have pegged you as a veteran with your broad knowledge of them.

Thanks.

Blade is 5 5/8ths-inches, overall is 10 1/8th-inches. Balances middle of the guard.

I still don't know how to post pictures, but I do have my first custom knife. I saw a picture of a knife Daryl Meier made for President Bush that had flags in the damascus. I contacted him and he sold me a great damascus billett in a ladder pattern. I wanted the knife to be special and then sent the damascus to Daniel Winkler. He made me a bowie and a hunter out of the steel and Karen Shook made a sheath that holds both knives in a shoulder rig. Without a doubt they are knives that I will hold on to and leave to my children. What they will do to them are anyones guess:D K Mart nor Wal Mart carries either style of knife ;)

Kevin, My first custom was a Bob Terzuola ATCF. I still have it but no photo. My second is a JD Smith MS 5 bar damascus folder with mastadon ivory and mokume and filework. It has a 5" blade and is still my favorite folder. Jim Treacy

That's a beauty Jim. I love the long clip.
With the 5" blade that would be one heck of a concealed personnel protection piece.

My first custom was(still is) A Jim Siska Damascus Subhilt with snakewood handles. I now currently own 24 or so of Jim's knives!
