The Utica EO jack I bought from Mike arrived from Israel while I was out of town. I was able to retrieve it from the post office this afternoon, and I am very happy with this one! At 3.375" closed, it is a nice size for me.

WOW!! Its a jewel, Doug. Congrats. When you take some more shots, could we get a close up of the tang stamp?

Thank you.

Sure thing. But it will be late next week before I can get some outside shots. I'm leaving again tomorrow morning.

In the mean time, these will have to suffice. Both blades have three lines the same.

UTICA (in an arc shape)
CUTLERY CO.
UTICA. N.Y.

The pen blade also has a fourth line: MADE IN USA

Nice jigged bone on that knife. It's neat to see one make it around the world and still stay in the forum!

Nice EO Jack, Doug. Do you know how old it might be ? A collector friend says that the arched Utica stamp was last used in 1956 but i don't know if that's accurate.

Perfect Doug! Thank you. That stamp is one I have never seen, so thanks again for the closeup. Very cool

Thanks for the nice comments.

Roland, I do not know the age of this one, maybe Mike does. I am a newcomer to vintage knives, so am pretty clueless. I just know what appeals to me.

As it turns out we are not leaving until after lunch, so I had time to snap a few outside photos this morning.

Beautiful knife, and believe it or not one of my favorite tang stamps, and the inspiration for the BFC tangstamp that charlie and i came up with!
It's an old stamp thats for sure

What a beauty, Doug! The bone looks really great!

Pete - yours a beauty, for sure :)

Kind regards
Andi

I couldn't find much info about dating Utica cut. by tang stamps, I don't think it is possible. The 3 lines stamp is more common than others. I saw 4 lines tang stamps only twice, one had arched Utica and the second had straight Utica. I believe that Doug's knife :) can be dated to 1950's maybe a bit earlier. Anyway it is a good knife with great bone handles.

Thanks again Mike for this lovely knife. I have received more comments about this knife than any other of which I have posted photos.

A side note, I enjoyed the Hebrew newspaper your used for padding. The father of my son's girlfriend lives in Israel, and she was delighted to see a Hebrew paper when I showed it to her this weekend.

That sure is pretty Doug!

I think your Utica EO Jack with the lovely "Utica bone" is earlier than 1950's and most likely pre WW II. Regardless it is a fine example of vintage USA craftsmanship, but i enjoy the 'forensic knifeology' aspect of trying to deduce when a knife was made and often by whom.

Thanks Roland. It looks early to me as well, but I'm a newcomer so really have no basis upon which to make judgements. Did you discover any relevant data that may help date this one?
